Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers recap for Friday, September 11, reveal that Kayla Brady (Mary Beth Evans) and Justin Kiriakis (Wally Kurth) bumped into each other in town square.
Kayla quickly learned that Justin didn’t know about Ciara Weston’s (Victoria Konefal) apparent death in the explosion at the airstrip. Kayla filled Justin in, and Justin comforted Kayla as they noted that Hope Brady (Kristian Alfonso) was now mourning the death of another child.
Kayla apologized for breaking down and crying, but Justin said that he would always be there for Kayla as a friend – after all, Kayla was there for him when he lost Adrienne Kiriakis (Judi Evans).
Soon, Justin got an alert on his phone, and it was time for him to go to the courthouse for the judge’s ruling in the custody case. Justin took off, and Kayla went to the hospital.
At the hospital, Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall) was cradling John Black (Drake Hogestyn) when Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney) walked in. Sami was upset with Marlena for spending the night in the hospital room and not taking care of herself, but Marlena wasn’t having it.
Instead, Marlena turned on Sami and blasted her for unleashing Jan Spears (Heather Lindell) on the family.
Sami attempted to deflect and compared the situation to when Marlena got Ben Weston (Robert Scott Wilson) and Claire Brady (Isabel Durant) out of mental hospitals, but Marlena didn’t fall for it.
Marlena said that Sami’s move was self-serving and that she didn’t care about Jan. Soon, Sami got an alert about the judge being ready to rule in the custody case, and she took off.
Later, Kayla arrived and talked with Marlena about Ciara. Kayla shared that Ben was sedated and recovering from burns and smoke inhalation. Kayla told Marlena that they were going to bring John off the sedation at the cardiologist’s request, even though he might not be ready yet from a neurological perspective.
At Nicole Brady (Arianne Zucker) and Eric Brady’s (Greg Vaughan) apartment, they worried about the custody case and what the judge would rule. Eric comforted Nicole, reassuring her that they’d be great parents to the baby. Soon, Justin called saying that they needed to get to court because the judge was ready to rule.
At Eli Grant (Lamon Archey) and Lani Price-Grant’s (Sal Stowers) place, Eli returned after an all-night shift and filled in Lani about Ciara. Afterwards, he stepped out to shower, and Lani got a call from Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk), who was at the Salem Inn with Brady Black (Eric Martsolf).
Lani filled Kristen in about Ciara, then she said that she’d continue watching Rachel Black for a while longer, and that she’d “handle” Eli.
Eli walked in the room to hear that last remark, and he got agitated. Eli told Lani that Kristen was putting them in jeopardy and that Kristen would never truly be her friend.
After some argument about Kristen’s crimes, Eli said that they were cops and that he was tired of the bad guys winning and their friends and family losing. Eli left upset.
At the Salem Inn, Kristen told Brady about Ciara, and Brady wanted to go see Victor Kiriakis (John Aniston), but Kristen got upset, saying that Victor deserved his pain.
After arguing about Victor for a while, Kristen told Brady to go if it was important to him. Brady almost left, then he stopped and said that his father needed him more. Brady and Kristen made up, and Brady took off for the hospital.
Later, Kristen called Lani and learned that Eli knew about her being in Salem. Kristen wasn’t thrilled about that, but Lani assured her that Eli wouldn’t say anything to anyone. Soon, Kristen’s room service arrived at the door, but when Kristen answered the door, Eli was standing there.
At the courthouse, Justin told Eric and Nicole about Ciara, and as they were talking about it, Sami arrived and heard the news. Sami was upset but quickly regrouped as the judge walked in ready to deliver her decision.
The judge started in with a discussion about Sami’s “semi-substantiated” claims against Nicole. Sami objected, but the judge told her to pipe down.
The judge went on, referencing the letter with Allie Horton’s (Lindsay Arnold) clear wishes spelled out and saying that she wasn’t fully persuaded by Victor and Jan.
Sami squawked again, and the judge admonished her harshly. The judge then said that she was going to lift the restraining order and allow Nicole and Eric to spend time with the baby like the mother wanted.
That made Nicole and Eric happy and Sami squirmed. Then the judge said that as far as custody went, there was one differentiating factor, and that’s that Sami was the closest relative.
The judge said that she was ruling in favor of Sami, and that Sami should not make her regret her decision. Sami cried with happiness. Nicole and Eric were crushed.
Back at the hospital, Brady arrived as Marlena was sitting with John. Marlena shared that the doctors were going to bring John off of sedation, but Marlena said that John still had a long road in front of him.
John comforted Marlena, and they wondered when John would wake up and whether he’d be himself afterwards. Marlena said they couldn’t predict it with the brain swelling. Suddenly, John opened his eyes and moved his arm.
