Days of Our Lives Spoilers: Monday, June 1 Recap - Rafe & Zoey Declare Custody War - Kayla & Justin Engaged - Lani Wants Pregnancy

Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers recap for Monday, June 1, reveal that Sonny Kiriakis (Freddie Smith) returned to the Kiriakis mansion and encountered Will Horton (Chandler Massey) working in the living room. Sonny said that he had something on his mind that his dad got him thinking about, and Will blurted out, “having another baby…let’s do it!”

Sonny was surprised but revealed that having another baby was exactly what he was going to discuss with Will. Will and Sonny discussed whether to adopt or have a surrogate involved, and Will liked the idea of Sonny being the biological father of their next child.

In the end, Will and Sonny decided that those details would work themselves out later, but for now the important decision was made.

At Lani Price’s (Sal Stowers) apartment, Eli Grant (Lamon Archey) walked in and wondered why Lani hadn’t returned his texts all day. Eli said he had been worried about Lani since she had run out on him earlier and said that she didn’t think she wanted to have the baby.

Lani revealed that she was afraid of losing the baby like they lost David Abraham Grant.

Lani went on, saying that there was no way to know what could happen, and that there were so many things that could go wrong. Eli gently said that there were also a lot of things that could go right, but Lani said that if she had to go through losing another child, then it would kill her.

Eli listened respectfully to Lani as she expressed her fears and described how hard it was to carry David, then lose him so horribly.

Eli wondered if all of this meant that Lani would never want to have a baby with him. Lani said that she didn’t know, and that maybe they should adopt. Lani told Eli that if this was a deal-breaker for him, then she understood. Eli said that there was no such thing as a deal-breaker where they were concerned, and that it was her decision if she wanted to go through with the pregnancy.

Eli kissed Lani and told her that he supported her 100% in whatever she decided to do, but he did say that he thought a baby was a blessing and that having a child with her would be a dream come true. Lani started crying, and she and Eli hugged. Eli asked Lani not to cry and told her that everything was going to be ok.

Lani said that she was crying because “as scared as I am, deep down in my heart I want to have this baby with you. There’s nothing more that I want.” Eli asked Lani if she was sure, and she said that she wanted this baby. Eli and Lani kissed and embraced.

Over at the Hernandez house, Hope Brady (Kristian Alfonso) dropped by to see Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gering). Hope thanked Rafe for helping her to move on with her life after her Princess Gina Von Amberg (Kristian Alfonso) nightmare. Hope told Rafe that working together with him last night made her feel like herself again, and she and Rafe warmly smiled at each other.

Suddenly, Zoey Burge (Alyshia Ochse) appeared in the living room unannounced. Turned out, Zoey was back after having found her son last night after Hope let her go.

Zoey asked to speak to Rafe privately, and Hope was a little reluctant, but ultimately she left. Zoey told Rafe that she wanted to apologize, and Rafe said that they could put it all behind them along with the custody battle over David Ridgeway (Kyler Ends).

Zoey said that she was absolutely still suing for custody of David, and that she intended to win. Rafe balked, saying that he had raised David per his mother’s wish, but Zoey said that she loved David and that she’d let Rafe see David after she won custody.

Rafe started to get irritated, firing back that Zoey already had one kid that she couldn’t look after.

Zoey and Rafe went back and forth about how each of their families has issues and things that they can bring against each other in court. Zoey said she knew her way around a courtroom, and Rafe promised to tear her apart.

Zoey and Rafe basically vowed to each other that they’d win and that the other wouldn’t stand a chance.

At the restaurant in town square, Kate DiMera (Lauren Koslow) and Abe Carver (James Raynolds) sat for a work meeting. Abe looked at his schedule, wondering what the “key to the city” ceremony was all about. Kate said that she had arranged it for Hope and Steve Johnson (Stephen Nichols) for their recent heroics. Abe was irritated, saying that such things needed to be approved by him first.

Abe then set some ground rules for Kate, and he wondered if perhaps the ceremony for Hope and Steve was Kate’s way of making up to them for what she did. Kate denied it, and she and Abe bickered a bit about Abe’s polling numbers and his image, which Kate promised to improve.

Ultimately, Abe agreed to go forward with the “key to the city” ceremony, but he made it clear that he cares more about policy than about PR, and that Kate shouldn’t foist anything like that onto him again. “Yes sir, Mr. Mayor, your wish is my command,” Kate said.

At the hospital, Justin Kiriakis (Wally Kurth) proposed to Kayla Brady (Mary Beth Evans) at the nurses’ station while Steve looked on from afar. Kayla was startled and told Justin that the ring was beautiful, and Steve took off, undetected. Steve went to Kayla’s office, where he wrote her a quick note and left.

Back at the nurses’ station, Kayla then asked Justin if they could go somewhere more private to talk. They went to Kayla’s office, where Steve was now gone but his note remained. Kayla immediately saw the note and read it while Justin was distracted. The note wished Kayla well and said that Steve was glad that she and Justin were happy.

Justin surmised that Kayla brought him to her office to spare him the humiliation of publicly rejecting his proposal. Kayla wondered where Justin’s proposal was coming from, and Justin explained about visiting Adrienne Kiriakis’ (Judi Evans) grave and talking with Sonny earlier. Justin said that he wouldn’t rush Kayla, and that he’d wait for an answer.

At the Brady Pub, Steve arrived to find Hope waiting on a food order. Steve revealed that he had walked in on Justin proposing to Kayla earlier. Hope was surprised and wondered if Kayla had said yes.

Steve didn’t know. Hope tried to convince Steve that he still needed to tell Kayla how he feels about her, since Kayla deserves the opportunity to make her own decision.

Steve and Hope then left the pub with their food and bumped into Justin and Kayla outside. They greeted each other, then Kayla announced that she and Justin were engaged. Hope and Steve looked at each other, then Steve shook Justin’s hand and congratulated him, saying he was happy for them both. Hope looked uncomfortable.
