General Hospital (GH) spoilers tease that Phyllis Caulfield is Nina Reeves’ (Cynthia Watros) ticket to answers about her long-lost child. GH fans know Nelle Benson Jerome (Chloe Lanier) is Nina’s dead bio daughter, but Nina isn’t aware of their connection. However, General Hospital will eventually have to connect some dots for both Nina and fans at home.
Let’s recap what we know so far. Phyllis’ name was on the receipt Nina acquired, so she was the one who requested that the half-heart pendant be separated. We also know Phyllis turned out to be the nurse who took care of Nina while she was in a coma.
Phyllis apparently had a pendant made for Nina and one made for the baby. Perhaps Phyllis felt guilty for being in on this secret and wanted to offer hope for a mother-daughter reunion someday. It might’ve eased Phyllis’ conscience about an illegal adoption.
Then again, maybe Phyllis just thought it’d be nice for Nina and her daughter to have a little something to connect them – even if they never ended up finding each other. Next, let’s talk about the faux flashbacks that featured Nelle wearing her pendant half when she was a kid.
Some fans mistakenly believe Nelle must’ve stolen the pendant as an adult, but that’s simply not true. Nelle was wearing it in plain sight when she was just a child. It’s also worth noting that Nelle wasn’t a conniving little monster in those flashbacks. Nelle was seemingly a normal, innocent kid with a horrible father.
In other words, it doesn’t seem like Nelle stole the pendant as a young girl either. It was clearly something that was given to her – and Frank Benson had to be the source.
This necklace doesn’t seem to be anything of major value or else Frank would’ve sold it. Frank had a terrible gambling habit, so he needed every last bit of cash he could get his hands on to bet it all away.
That gambling habit and need for money may be the key to figuring out Phyllis and Frank’s connection. Why on earth would Frank – the most selfish man alive – take in someone else’s child to raise? Why would Frank want to illegally adopt a baby when he didn’t care about anyone but himself?
Money was always Frank’s motivator, so maybe someone paid him to watch over Nelle for a while and never came back. On the other hand, Frank might’ve been part of some illegal adoption ring. Maybe having a child himself made it look less suspicious somehow.
Of course, there’s another important person to mention – and that’s the woman Nelle believed was her mother. She was dead by the time the flashback of Nelle in the necklace happened.
There’s a chance Frank’s wife pushed him to illegally adopt a baby when she couldn’t have one. Perhaps Frank just got stuck with Nelle when his wife kicked the bucket.
Whatever the case, Frank somehow wound up with Nina’s baby – and Phyllis might be able to provide answers. Does Phyllis have info on where Nina’s daughter landed after she was illegally adopted? Nina might ultimately start a new search that points to an old address of Frank Benson’s.
Perhaps Nina could get a hint before the inevitable necklace shocker or confirmation afterward. Either way, GH fans will be eager to learn more about how Nina’s baby ended up with Frank and how Phyllis fits in. As other news and updates emerge, we’ll keep you posted.
