General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that one ABC soap star opened up about what it’s really like to work with Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos). GH fans have seen Sonny and Nikolas Cassadine (Marcus Coloma) face off, but Benard’s far less intimidating behind the scenes – at least according to Coloma!
In an interview with Soap Opera Digest, Coloma offered some kind words about his costar. It turns out Benard was actually one of the first people on the welcome wagon when Coloma joined General Hospital. Coloma insisted that it was exciting to finally share some scenes with Benard, but neither one kept up a tough guy act behind the scenes.
“It was so much fun,” Coloma admitted. “We were laughing so hard because my dressing room is right across from Maurice’s and right off the bay when I started working on the show, he was so friendly and nice and welcoming.”
Coloma went on to say that Benard had been a big help during his time at GH so far. When a newcomer first arrives at General Hospital, it’s always great if he or she can have someone to guide them. A new experience like that can be overwhelming, so it’s awesome that the rest of the General Hospital cast looks out for their newbies!
“We’d always run into each other in the halls and talk and he was so generous, just kind of telling me about the soap world and showing me the ropes,” Coloma said.
In fact, Coloma and Benard have such an easy-going bond that it made their confrontational scenes strange. Since Coloma looks up to Benard and thinks he’s “such a legend” on GH, he found it hard to fight with a straight face!
Even so, Coloma called working with Benard “a real treat,” so he’s hopeful that the writers keep finding ways for Sonny and Nikolas to interact. General Hospital fans know Nik and Sonny had a run-in at Turning Woods recently, so there are certainly places for them to cross paths in Port Charles.
General Hospital spoilers say Sonny will have to deal with the blow of Mike Corbin’s (Max Gail) death as the final phase of this Alzheimer’s storyline, so stay tuned.
