General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that Nikolas Cassadine (Marcus Caloma) may try to bring his son, Spencer Cassadine (Nicolas Bechtel) home. However, there’s a problem. For years, Spencer believed that Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) murdered his father. In fact, this industrious GH character went so far to carry out a plot of revenge.
The child went to Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) to try and arrange for Valentin’s unfortunate demise! Of course, Sonny refused and Spencer eventually found himself at school in Paris.
When Nikolas and his wife Ava Jerome (Maura West) visited Spencer at school and revealed that Nikolas was actually alive, relief quickly turned to burning anger. How could “The Good Cassadine” have left him deceived, believing his father was dead? What kind of father does that?
GH viewers may find themselves in agreement with the younger Cassadine. After all, Nikolas casually admitted to Spencer that he’d simply stayed away, allowing his son to believe he was dead, because he was busy trying to get revenge on Valentin (as well as to regain his inheritance).
These certainly don’t sound like the actions of a devoted, loving father! Although at the time Nikolas attempted to make amends, and begged his son to allow him to prove his love, Spencer couldn’t be consoled.
In fact, he let his father know in no uncertain terms that he wanted Nikolas to stay away from him. Eventually, Nikolas honored his son’s request and went back to Port Charles.
These events haunt Nikolas and he has confided in Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) about the emotional pain he feels. He desperately wants to put what he considers his family back together again.
However, GH viewers know that since then, Nikolas seems to have lost sight of his ultimate priorities. (In fact, Elizabeth has actually taken Nikolas to task over this very issue.)
In recent episodes, “The Princely One” has been utterly consumed with ending his marriage to Ava. Remember that although he needs Ava to get his fortune back, he has incredible anger toward her because she refused to help put Valentin in prison for his “murder.”
With that in mind, he’s plotted and schemed (as has she) to get the other to break their pre-nuptial agreement. According to the understanding between them, the moment either sleeps with someone else the marriage ends.
At the same time, these two broken GH characters used to love one another in a sort of “can’t live with’em can’t live without’em” manner. It’s obvious that Ava cares about Spencer, and even urged the boy to reconcile with his father before they left Paris.
The question is now whether Nikolas can get his act together. Can he get his priorities straight and put his focus back where it should be? Can he find the emotional and moral fortitude to put other considerations aside and work to heal his relationship with Spencer?
