General Hospital Spoilers: Thursday, October 8 Recap - Sonny & Family Say Touching Goodbye To Mike - Dante Returns

General Hospital (GH) spoilers recap for Thursday, October 8, reveal that Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) entered the church ahead of Mike Corbin’s (Max Gail) funeral service. A beautiful framed photo of Mike sat at the front of the church, and Sonny thanked Carly for arranging for the photo.

Slowly, people started arriving for the service and greeted Sonny and Carly, including Ava Jerome Cassadine (Maura West), Kristina Corinthos-Davis (Lexi Ainsworth), Brando Corbin (Johnny Wactor), Dev Corbin (Ashton Arbab), Ned Quartermaine (Wally Kurth), Olivia Quartermaine (Lisa LoCicero), Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell), and Willow Corinthos (Katelyn MacMullen).

Stella Henry (Vernee Watson) lit a candle for Mike, and soon Sonny and Carly approached and thanked Stella for everything she had done for them and for Mike.

Jasper “Jax” Jacks (Ingo Rademacher) and Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) arrived, as well as Brook Lynn Quartermaine (Briana Lane) and Diane Miller (Carolyn Hennesy). Sonny stepped away, and Diane told Carly that if she ever needed to talk or vent, to call her.

Sonny stepped outside and talked to Elizabeth Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst), thanking her for talking to him and getting him to see that the feeding tube was unfair to Mike. Elizabeth said that Sonny would have come to the decision on his own, and that Sonny gave Mike the best of himself.

Soon, it was time for the service to start. Michael spoke first, talking about how Mike would want this to be a celebration of his life. Michael said that Mike never shied away from life, and that he took chances and gave generously. Michael finished by walking to Mike’s casket and touching it lovingly.

Olivia spoke next on behalf of Dante Falconeri (Dominick Zamprogna). Olivia spoke of Dante and Mike’s special bond, and she said that Mike was a generous man with a fierce temper just like Dante’s. Olivia spoke about the evening that Dante spent in lockup with Mike, and how Dante had said that it was a privilege to spend time together.

Ava spoke next on behalf of Avery Corinthos (Ava and Grace Scarola). Ava said that Avery adored her grandfather, and that when Mike was still able, he loved playing with Avery and telling her about when he was a boy.

Ava said that Avery especially loved hearing about horses from her grandfather, and that he always had a big smile for her when she visited him at Turning Woods.

Elizabeth was next, and she remembered about how Mike used to watch her and her friends struggle through adolescence. Elizabeth said that Mike offered his support, but that he let them figure out how to do things on their own. Elizabeth flashed back to a time when Mike said that he was going to soon forget her, and that this was a shame.

Brando spoke next, saying that he only had a summer as a kid with Mike and the past few months, but that Mike had taught him a lot. Brando said that Mike taught him four things – that family matters, there’s less time than you think, everyone makes mistakes, and the trick is to learn from your mistakes.

Brando said that Mike was kind and tolerant, and that he knew what truly mattered.

Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) spoke, recounting how he first met Mike at Luke’s Club, and that it wasn’t until the past couple years that he started to appreciate Mike’s courage.

Jason spoke about how Mike had run away when Sonny was a boy, but that he made his way back to Sonny later in life. As Jason was talking, Sonny flashed back to a time when Mike told him that he should have done better as a father.

Stella spoke as well, saying that Mike took time to cultivate people, and she said that Mike always wanted to help her when she was down and celebrate when she was up.

Stella spoke about Mike’s decades-long gambling addiction, and how Sonny was with his father every step of the way at the end. Stella flashed back to helping Sonny cope and come to terms with his helplessness over Alzheimer’s Disease.

Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco) spoke next, saying that Mike had a wonderful sense of humor and that he never judged or criticized other people’s choices. Sam said that Mike knew that everyone was flawed, and that the secret to life was to find perspective and move forward.

Carly went next, saying that when Sonny first brought Mike home with Alzheimer’s Disease, she was terrified, and that there were painful times and so many wonderful times.

Carly spoke about Mike’s trip to the track in his final days, and how much he loved being with the horses. Carly said that Sonny and Mike mended what was broken between them, and that Sonny gave Mike the forgiveness and the love he needed to be at peace.

Sonny was the last person to speak, and he said that it was no secret that he was estranged from Mike for years, and that he had a lot of anger and judged his father.

Sonny said that it took this illness to see his dad for the amazing man that he was. Sonny said that he didn’t make it easy on Mike, but he was there in the end, and that Mike was there for him in the end. Sonny looked at Mike’s picture and said, “I love you, dad.”

Josslyn then rose and told the group that Mike loved music, and that she had a song for him. As Josslyn sang, everyone in the church was emotional, and viewers saw a series of flashbacks of Mike interacting with Josslyn, Stella, Michael, Carly, and Sonny.

Josslyn started crying toward the end of the song, but she managed to keep it together to finish the song.

The burial happened off-screen, and afterwards Sonny and Carly entered the empty church together. Carly said that she was glad they decided to bury Mike next to Morgan Corinthos (Bryan Craig). Sonny asked for a moment alone in the church, and Carly exited.

Sonny sat down on a pew and said, “Time to let go, dad. Ain’t that a kick in the pants?” Sonny continued, saying, “For so long I pushed you away, and now I don’t want you to go because of my anger. And I can’t take it back now.”

Suddenly, a vision of Mike appeared to Sonny. “Do me a favor, son,” Mike said. “Don’t romanticize me. You had every right to your anger. I walked out on you.”

Sonny protested, saying that he didn’t have a right to judge Mike, and that he should have told Mike that he loved him. Mike said that Sonny did so much for him, and that forgiving him was the greatest gift. “So now I want you to forgive yourself,” Mike said.

“I should have been better to you, dad,” Sonny said. “You loved me and supported me,” Mike said. “You stayed with me to the end. You made me very proud.” Sonny said that he was going to miss Mike, and Mike said that he’d always be with Sonny.

Mike then got up and walked out the front door of the church, turned around, and said, “I love you son.”

The doors to the church shut, and Sonny stood alone in the church. Sonny decided it was time to leave, and he walked toward the doors. The doors opened, and Dante stood there. Sonny and Dante made eye contact and looked at each other.
