It’s been three years since the Assanti brothers began their weight-loss journey together. The brothers had been troubled. Steven and his brother Justin were both overweight and they both suffered from severe psychological issues. The older Assanti brother was Stephen. Stephen had an addictive and pathological personality. He didn’t really care about his weight-loss. He mistreated everyone who tried to help him and then he would play the victim the second anyone else pushes back. He even tried to do so with Dr. Now. The doctor was quick to notice how dependent on painkillers Steven was and so he was the first to realize how Steven was abusing the system.

Steven would enter weight-loss programs, not with the intent of wanting to lose weight. He would do so for the chance at getting his hands on pain medication and so Dr. Now suspended him from the program. He entered Steven in a drug addiction program. Steven was finally able to receive help for his addiction and later he would be readmitted for weight-loss. Steven seemed to be doing better after he acknowledged his addiction. He was finally listening to Dr. Now and his personality seems to have changed for the better as well. Steven now cares about his brother. He wanted his brother to lose weight because he wanted Justin to live a long life.

Only it was too late for their relationship. Steven was abusive to his younger brother for years. He would beat him up every day and he more or less tortured Justin throughout their childhoods. Justin was so messed up by his brother that he developed social anxiety. He hadn’t liked talking to people and he would refuse to look at them when they were talking to him. Justin did that the first time he met Dr. Now. Dr. Now came in and he started talking to Justin and Justin stayed looking at his phone. Justin would look at them through the phone. He couldn’t bring himself to look the doctor in the eye and Dr. Now hadn’t tolerated that for long.

Dr. Now made sure both brothers received psychological help. It helped them lose weight and yet it didn’t help them repair the relationship. Justin hated Steven. He couldn’t stand to be around him and so he missed his latest appointment with Dr. Now just so that he wouldn’t see Steven. Steven and Justin’s father has been trying to bring the brothers together. Their father wants them to at least be on speaking terms. He thought if he got them both in the same car that they would talk and they did. Justin told Steven how much he hated him. Justin was never going to forgive Steven for his pathological behavior.

Justin wanted Steven out of his life. He’s been telling everyone that he wants nothing to do with Steven and their father refuses to accept it. Their dad still wants them to talk. He pushes and so Justin pushes back. Justin was skipping his moments with Dr. Now because he didn’t want to be in the same state as his brother and so it was just Steven who was continuing his journey. Steven went back to the doctor. He found out he’s gained four pounds and he considered that to be a good thing. He thought it was still progressing. It wasn’t and Dr. Now said as much. The doctor also mentioned several other concerns. Dr. Now noticed that Steven smelled.

Steven claimed he has a problem with his bathroom. He also said he took a bathroom two days ago and that along with a rash was why he smelled. Steven came up with plenty of excuses. Dr. Now fell for none of them and he told Steven that he smelled like he hadn’t taken a shower in two weeks. Dr. Now told him to take a shower every day. He said that it would help him from developing a rash and he threw in some cream too. The doctor wanted Steven to succeed. It was Steven who looked like he was back-sliding and maybe it was the issue with his brother or maybe it was just him looking for an excuse to backslide.

One of the first things Dr. Now said about the brothers was that they were in a downward dead spiral together. Justin later saw a doctor in Rhode Island to get his stitches out and he’s back on solid foods now. He hasn’t seen or talked to Dr. Now in months. He doesn’t think he needs the doctor anymore. Justin said he could lose the weight on his own and again he didn’t want to be in the same state as his brother. He was avoiding Texas altogether. His father later left to go see Steven and their dad was a great support to him. Steven has been feeling lonely. He was far away from his family and he misses them.

Steven was doing much better with his dad back in town. He went to the grocery store for the first time in years thanks to his father’s support and it had been good for him. Steven learned how to shop for himself. Steven also liked having his dad around because on a competitive level he knows how irritated it makes Justin. Steven likes competing with his brother. He’s heard how well Justin is doing with his new store and being social and Steven wants to beat him at something. This time it was weight-loss. Steven wanted to reach his goal weight first and he seemed to take pleasure in knowing how his own story was going to affect Justin.

Steven knew Justin would be jealous. Steven was better in a lot of ways. He just never truly lost the meanness and so he liked knowing he could beat Justin at something. He also turned on his brother when his father later had to leave Houston early. Their dad had to go back to Rhode Island because Justin called him and told him he passed out. Their dad wanted to check up on Justin. Which infuriated Steven. Steven thought his brother was crying wolf because he wanted attention and he called Justin an immature little boy. Justin was their father’s baby. He liked being taken care of and he still lives with their dad.

Steven lives on his own. He believed he’s more independent than his brother and so he’s angry at Justin taking their dad away. Their dad believed he had to leave Steven because Justin was in dire need. Justin was doing better by the time their dad came back and the dad convinced Justin to video-chat with Dr. Now. Justin later called the doctor. The doctor did address Justin’s absences and he told Justin he needed to be weighed. Justin still doesn’t want to come down there. He doesn’t want to be too close to his brother and he doesn’t even want to see Dr. Now in case, he ran into his brother. And so there was good news for him.

Steven was eventually kicked out of the program. Steven’s blood tests came back and it revealed he had opiates in his system. Steven broke the conditions of his weight-loss program with Dr. Now. The doctor couldn’t keep making excuses for Steven and so the journey was over after two years. Steven was now on his own. He said he’s going to keep trying to lose weight on his own and he was dating. He met a woman. They haven’t known each other for long and they’re moving in together. Steven was moving in with her and her teenage daughter. He couldn’t wait to do so because this was the first time he’s ever been in a serious relationship.

His family however weren’t happy. Both his father and his brother accused this woman of being a prostitute and porn star and Steven called them jealous. He said his girlfriend wasn’t anything like they painted her out to be. She was a massage therapist. She lives in a house with her daughter and she was very conscious of healthy eating. She didn’t eat frozen food. She cooked every meal herself and later Steven would marry this woman. He moved to Iowa to be with his new family. He was happy and so that spurred on Justin to becoming independent. He later looked for apartments because he wanted to move out on his own.

Justin has his own income. He has his Hobby store and so he could afford to live on his own. Justin would go look at his apartments with his friend Toni there for support. He also talked about his brother Steven. He claims not to know much about Steven’s life and he said he doesn’t really care to go looking for answers. He repeated he wanted nothing to do with his brother. Justin was even glad that Steven had gotten married because that meant he wasn’t coming back to Rhode Island. He helped his father pack up the rest of Steven’s things and they shipped them back to Steven. Steven had tried to reach out to Justin over social media.

Justin blocked him. He blocked all of Steven’s accounts, Steven’s wife’s accounts, and he even blocked Steven’s stepdaughter’s accounts. Justin truly wanted nothing to do with his brother. He still considers him to be an evil person. He also thought Steven was going to gain all the weight back now that he was out of the program and so he wished nothing but the absolute worst for his brother. Justin would also return to the program now that his brother isn’t a problem. Justin weighed himself at a nearby clinic and he was 432 lbs. He would call Dr. Now and give him the results. And the doctor said he should have lost more.

Dr. Now wants him to lose another hundred pounds before he can approve Justin for skin-removal surgery. He was also glad to hear from Justin because he wanted one of the brothers to continue to do the right thing and so the doctor didn’t know how Steven was doing until the father spoke to him. The dad told Dr. Now that Steven’s new wife keeps him on the right path. He hasn’t touched the drugs and he was still losing weight. Both brothers were doing better. They each thought they could do all of this without Dr. Now’s help and so they stopped contacting the doctor. It was almost two years since they last talked that Steven reached out to Dr. Now.

Steven wanted back on the program. He was 550 pounds on his last appointment with Dr. Now and he thinks he’s still around that same area now. He last weighed himself two months before. He was 518 then and he knows he’s gained weight. He wasn’t following his diet. He was overeating with every opportunity and he also claims to be drug-free. Steven was still married. His wife threatened to leave him if he didn’t change his ways and so that’s why he’s reaching out. Steven was still doing what he wants. He doesn’t eat the meals she provides him and he was being manipulative. He knows he’s being manipulative. And so his wife was threatening divorce.

She might still divorce him if he goes to Houston to stay there for a while. Only he needs to go down there in order to change and he needs to get away from his dad. His dad was the one ordering the pizza for him. He was still enabling Steven and so odds are he’s enabling Justin as well. Steven hasn’t heard from his brother Justin in years. They don’t talk and so the doctor doesn’t know what Justin is up to, but Dr. Now has done everything he can for the Asssanti brothers and he’s not sure if there’s anymore he can do for them.

THE END!
