Recent statements made on Meghan Markle’s behalf by her legal team seems to have left Queen Elizabeth and the rest of the royal family completely rattled. As you might remember, court documents revealed that Meghan felt “vulnerable” and “unprotected” while a member of the royal family, and for the Queen, that’s got to sting.
The statement, which was made by Meghan Markle’s lawyers, was widely publicized last week, largely because of its shocking nature. The statement was made in court documents that are part of Meghan’s lawsuit against Associated Newspapers.
One of the organization’s papers published parts of a private letter that Meghan wrote to her father Thomas Markle after her wedding to Prince Harry.
Meghan is now suing Associated Newspapers, and in the lawsuit, Meghan will have to demonstrate that she was harmed by the organization’s actions. The court documents stated that Meghan was the subject of numerous “false and damaging’ articles that “caused tremendous emotional distress and damage to her mental health.”
In describing the damage to Meghan’s mental health, the court papers stated the following: “As her friends had never seen her in this state before, they were rightly concerned for her welfare, specifically as she was pregnant, unprotected by the Institution, and prohibited from defending herself.”
Well, royal author Phil Dampier recently told the Daily Telegraph that he thinks that Queen Elizabeth will be “absolutely devastated” by that statement. “She’ll cope with it, but she will feel desperately betrayed,” Dampier said.
Dampier went on to argue that Queen Elizabeth actually made Meghan Markle feel quite welcome in the royal family, even breaking with protocol on certain occasions to invite Meghan to family celebrations before she and Prince Harry were married.
We should note, however, that the statement made by Meghan’s lawyers may not have been referring to Queen Elizabeth or any other particular members of the royal family.
Rather, some have suggested that Meghan’s complaint was with her former communications team when she was a royal, but still the wording of the statement could be interpreted as a jab at the royal family as a whole.
Apparently, Meghan thinks that someone should have better protected her from the media bias and publications, although exactly what the royal family, or even her communications team, could have done differently has yet to be clearly articulated by anyone.
At any rate, Meghan Markle’s claims can’t be easy for the Queen or the rest of the royal family to take. And this is only the beginning – as Meghan’s lawsuit against the newspaper organization continues to evolve, she’ll necessarily have to elaborate on her claims, and that will mean she’ll have to explain exactly who she believes failed to protect her in much more detail.
