Should The Young and the Restless Do a COVID-19 Storyline When New Y&R Episodes Return?

The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that some big decisions will have to be made behind the scenes before production of new Y&R episodes resumes. No one knows for sure when the cast and crew will get back to work, but we should go ahead and start thinking about what’s ahead. Should The Young and the Restless do a COVID-19 storyline? It might be something Y&R writers and execs consider doing.

There’s a good chance The Young and the Restless will still have some restrictions in place once they’re back in action. It’s tough to imagine them just going back to business as usual under the circumstances. There’ll have to be some limitations like no kissing, love scenes or group scenes for a while.

However, a COVID-19 storyline might not be the best way to explain that onscreen. There’s been nonstop coronavirus news coverage for months and that’s not going to change anytime soon. Do we really want to hear about COVID-19 on Y&R, too? Maybe The Young and the Restless should help us all take a break from the pandemic instead of highlighting it when new Y&R episodes return.

There are other strategies they can use as explanations for extra distance between performers. For starters, some couples could face conflict and be torn apart. Others might become conflicted and pull back – like Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan) backing off Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic) because she has feelings for Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson).

Y&R could also shift away from love stories for a while and focus on other angles. They could do more business faceoffs at Jabot, Newman Enterprises and Chancellor Communications. We could watch Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) face the reality of killing AJ Montalvo and fight his way through that trauma.

The Young and the Restless could also focus on Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) getting her fashion lines up and running. We could see characters become workaholics for a while instead of concentrating on romance quite so much. If Y&R throws in some sabotage and perhaps a new mystery or two, they can keep the drama going.

When it comes down to it, a COVID-19 storyline seems unnecessary and might be a turnoff to viewers. We’ll deliver the latest updates as more details become available. The Young and the Restless spoilers say some hot material will play out no matter what, so we’ll all look forward to what’s ahead!
