The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Is Gum-Chewer Billy Gone for Good – Dark Alternate Personality Returns?

The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that Billy Abbott’s (Jason Thompson) future seems uncertain. Of course, that’s how Y&R usually rolls when it comes to Billy! It feels like the show’s struggled to settle on a firm direction for this character – and that trend may continue.

First, we had Billy fighting desperately to get Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) back and pushing her to marry him. Billy and Victoria compromised with a recommitment ceremony before Billy eventually decided he wanted freedom. Billy preferred sneaking around with Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan) at a dive bar to therapy sessions.

After Billy quit Jabot, he dumped Victoria and broke up his family. Now we’ve got Billy running Chancellor Communications with Lily Winters (Christel Khalil). Amanda was also hired at Chancellor, so she’s part of the mix here. Billy’s story has been all over the place – even going back to those dark moments when an alternate personality surfaced.

Since Billy’s therapist warned even the slightest thing could trigger Billy, there’s always the threat of that alternate personality coming back. That’s especially true since Billy bailed on therapy and no longer has Victoria to keep him on track.

Is gum-chewer Billy really gone for good? Y&R viewers will recall that Billy popped sticks of gum when this alternate personality came out. It was an easy way for fans to tell whether it was the real Billy or the darkest version of himself.

Dark Billy tried to kill Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) by running him down, so that was a huge deal. We’re talking about attempted murder, so the return of this alternate personality would definitely be troubling.

Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) recently dropped quite a bomb when he revealed Adam himself killed AJ Montalvo. The Young and the Restless is reinforcing this “Adam is a killer” theme and setting Adam up for a dark battle of his own.

Once Adam accepts that Victor’s right about how it all went down, he may start thinking about the other deaths he’s caused – like Delia Abbott’s (Sophie Pollono). There would be ways to tie Billy into Adam’s trauma story if that’s how Y&R wants to take this. Out of all the characters in Genoa City, the writers seem to like focusing on Adam and Billy’s deep psychological issues the most.

The Young and the Restless could always shake things up by having Billy’s dark side resurface. Billy clearly isn’t willing to put in any kind of work when it comes to therapy and making sure he stays well. Since Billy’s been such a mess over the past year or so, that may not change just because he got a new job.

Do you think Billy could relapse at some point? If so, it might be interesting to see who’d be there for Billy in his time of need – Lily or Amanda! As other Y&R news and updates come in, we’ll keep you posted.
