The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) may find himself in need of a new love interest down the road. There’s always a lot of talk about who Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) belongs with. Some people enjoy Rey and Sharon’s sweet, stable relationship.
Others feel like Sharon sparkles more with Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) or Adam Newman (Mark Grossman).
The point is Sharon’s got other options if her love story with Rey comes to an end – and it just might on new Y&R episodes. Although Rey’s stood by Sharon through her cancer fight, that doesn’t guarantee a happy ending. Sharon’s recovery could lead to some changes for this couple.
It could be a situation where both Sharon and Rey struggle once there’s no crisis holding them together.
Regardless, if we’re going to consider other romantic possibilities for Sharon, we need to consider other romantic possibilities for Rey. Since breakups are an inevitable part of soaps, Rey’s bound to need another lovely lady in his life eventually.
Let’s consider four love interest options for Rey and try to figure out what his future might look like.
1) Victoria Newman
Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) is the most logical choice since she’s already single. Y&R viewers will recall the apparent chemistry test between Rey and Victoria – back when they got trapped at Newman Enterprises during a storm. The Young and the Restless has presented these two as a possible pairing, so maybe they’ll pull the trigger and let Rey fall hard for Victoria at some point.
2) Abby Newman
Many Y&R fans are still rooting for Rey and Abby Newman (Melissa Ordway) to become a couple. Abby and Rey just seem like they’d be a good match. Plus, their exes cheated with each other, so that adds some shared history to connect them.
Abby dated Arturo Rosales (Jason Canela), who slept with Mia Rosales (Noemi Gonzalez). Since Arturo is Rey’s brother, that makes all of this even messier. It’s a shame Abby hasn’t already hooked up with Rey under the circumstances.
There’s still time for Abby and Rey to bond over the past if that’s the way Young and the Restless writers want to take things. Abby and Chance Chancellor (Donny Boaz) could use the drama of a love triangle anyway!
3) Phyllis Summers
Once Nick and Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) head for Splitsville, perhaps Y&R could go for a partner switch. Can you imagine the tension if Nick wound up back with Sharon and Rey wound up with Phyllis?!
There’d be some exciting places to go with that story, which would no doubt include some unresolved feelings and jealousy all around.
4) Chelsea Lawson
Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) might be another intriguing love interest possibility for Rey. If Chelsea and Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) get torn apart by his childhood trauma, what about putting Rey with Chelsea?
Could you see some sizzle happening? Rey’s been jealous of Sharon and Adam’s bond in the past, so it’d be interesting to watch Adam seethe over Rey and Chelsea growing closer.
Whatever the case, Rey may be shopped around for a new pairing if “Shey” breaks up. Who would you like to see Rey paired up with next? As other Y&R news rolls in, we’ll pass along updates.
