The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that the CBS soap missed an opportunity when they made a casting cut in 2019. Y&R fans will recall how Ana Hamilton (Loren Lott) was abruptly written out of the show, but was that a mistake? Many viewers thought so at the time, but it’s looking like an even bigger mistake now that Theo Vanderway (Tyler Johnson) only has one real romantic option.
Summer Newman (Hunter King) was basically only with Theo as a way to cope with losing Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor). Summer and Kyle are quite happy together at the moment, although some storms will surely head their way sooner or later.
Even if a “Skyle” split happens, Summer would probably rather stay single than get back together with Theo. Things just didn’t work out for those two at all. Theo’s all about Lola Rosales (Sasha Calle) these days anyway, but what if that doesn’t work out either? Will Theo just have to sulk alone?
Theo doesn’t really have any other good romantic possibilities on canvas, so it’s a shame Ana isn’t around. Last year, Loren Lott posted a video about her last day on set and explained Y&R’s decision to cut her character. Lott was told that the writers hit a creative roadblock and didn’t know what to do with her storyline.
First of all, it’s ridiculous for any writing team to claim something like that – especially in the soap genre. Pick a trope, any trope! It’s so easy to come up with dozens of stories for any character if you’re willing to lean into the genre and give it some thought.
However, TPTB’s claims weren’t even true since the show literally had to pull Ana out of a new storyline when they cut her. Remember how Theo was suddenly given a music background so he could play babysitter to Ana at LP? Theo and Ana seemed poised for a potential romance. There’s a story!
It makes no sense for the writers to claim they didn’t know what to do when they clearly did. They just didn’t want to do it. Of course, it’s not too late to bring Ana back and put her in Theo’s orbit again. Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) fired Theo, but Genoa City isn’t that big. Ana could still cross paths with Theo and leave the door open for some flying sparks.
