The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that the CBS soap will soon have to deal with some tricky restrictions. The cast and crew will have to follow tons of new safety protocols once Y&R’s back in production. The Bold and the Beautiful is using some creative tactics to handle these protocols and still deliver the love stories soap fans have come to expect.
B&B’s using the real-life partners of their actors as stand-ins whenever possible. The goal is for camerawork and editing to make it look like two characters are kissing. In reality, it’ll be an actor and his or her spouse. The same goes for scenes that require touching, but Y&R has a chance to take this idea a bit further.
Brytni Sarpy (Elena Dawson) and Bryton James (Devon Hamilton) are a real-life couple, so they’ll be able to kiss and touch just fine in new episodes. Devon and Elena’s relationship should remain steamy in the bedroom!
The Young and the Restless could also pair Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) back up with Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) since their portrayers are an item offscreen.
However, there’s one more opportunity to consider in these desperate times. Melissa Ordway’s (Abby Newman) real-life husband, Justin Gaston, happens to be a soap alum. Gaston played Ben Rogers on Days of Our Lives in 2014 before the part was ultimately recast, so that’s worth mulling over.
Would Gaston be open to doing another soap? Could Ordway’s real-life husband come play a new love interest for Abby – one that she could kiss and touch? Of course, Y&R could use the same stand-in route as B&B and have Gaston swap in for Donny Boaz (Chance Chancellor).
It just seems like a waste when Gaston has acting experience and could play an actual character.
Gaston has been on other shows like The Haves and the Have Nots and currently has a TV movie called Beautifully Flawed in post-production. It might be interesting if Gaston came on The Young and the Restless to play a new man for Abby. By eliminating the kissing and touching restrictions, Y&R could eliminate a lot of story obstacles, too.
Maybe Abby could have a huge blowup with Chance and hop in the sack quickly with this new guy to get over him! It’s fun to consider all the possibilities as we await new episodes.
