In tonight’s 9-1-1 episode, the episode begins with Maddie has left. She was struggling with postpartum depression. She didn’t trust herself around her daughter and so she left. She thought it was the best thing. Maddie has been known to take some time to heal and that’s what she needs to do now. She needs to heal. Her leaving so abruptly affected her family and Chimney was especially struggling with her leaving.

He wanted to believe she would never have left if she had a choice. He thinks someone is making her do this and he kept watching her goodbye video in the hopes of spotting some sign and it was crazy. No one had the heart to tell him it was crazy. But it was. Chimney soon realized that the best thing was to focus on his daughter because she was going to need him right now more than ever and so he was forced to give up on Maddie.

Others were forced to do the same as well. The 911 Dispatcher’s Office found a replacement for Maddie and it was someone known to them. Her name is Claudette Collins. She used to work there years ago and she left to join the private sector. Josh reached out to her once he found out Maddie wasn’t coming back. He was able to lure Claudette back in. She was a happy to get back to work. She was also a big personality.

It took some time to get used to her and May was going to need that time. May’s coffee was “commandeered”. She was sure her lunch money would be next when an emergency call came in and it was a big one. A van lost control of its vehicle and it crashed into a homecoming parade.

The driver was killed on impact. Two cheerleaders were directly hit. One was killed and the other was rushed to the hospital. There was also a teacher injured. He was trapped in a collapsed structure. He couldn’t feel anything and so the firefighters believe he was suffering from a spinal injury.

They also had to take their time with getting him out of the structure. They were moving all the parts when they spotted smoke from the van. The van was apparently carrying Chlorine tanks and in the crash they started to leak. They then started to smoke. This coupled with the fire from the van could lead to a huge explosion and so the firefighters had to call it in. They had to clear the area.

The dispatchers were told to tell everyone in the area to stay indoors. May was asked how long that was going to take and she guessed a time and was quickly shut down by Claudette. Claudette reminded May to stick to the script. They don’t get to guess or offer reassurances. It’s not their job. May had started working as a dispatcher after her mother was injured on the job as a police officer and she worked the pandemic.

May doesn’t feel she needs Claudette to explain her job to her. She and Claudette do not get along and it was just going to worse. As they were eyeing each other, the scene with the chlorine tanks was cleared up. The teacher was removed from the structure and taken to the hospital.

The parents of the cheerleaders went to the hospital. The girl that was rushed there in critical condition had been saying the name McKayla over and over again when Hen asked her her name and so Hen thought that meant McKayla was the cheerleader’s name. But it turns out the girl was saying her best friend’s name because in her confused state she was trying to ask about her friend.

The parents were therefore told different set of news. The parents of the dead cheerleader was told their child was alive and the parents of the alive cheerleader was told their daughter was dead. No one realized the confusion until the parents went to identify their daughter and they realized that wasn’t their child.

This unfortunately broke the hearts of the parents of the real McKayla. Eddie and Hen had been at the hospital and so they had been a witness to all of it. Hen was the one who misidentified the victims. She felt it was her duty to break the news to McKayla’s parents and they naturally didn’t take it well. They broke down in tears.

They cried uncontrollably and the only ones who could comfort them were the other parents. Both families had been close. Their daughters had been like sisters and everyone was going to be needed to be there for the surviving girl. She was going to need to heal from her physical injuries as well as her mental ones. Speaking of healing, Athena hadn’t known her son’s kidnapping negatively affected her health until she tried cleaning the whole and everything in it.

Athena doesn’t feel in her own house. She’s not sure she should be telling her son that he’s safe if she doesn’t feel it herself and so she leaned on her husband. Bobby did his best to comfort her while his stepdaughter May handled her brother. May got her brother to open up.

She told him about Claudette and how Claudette had it in for her and that got Harry talking. He admitted he was angry. He was angry that his father had been there and he hadn’t been able to stop his kidnapper. He’s angry at his mom because if it hadn’t been for her then he wouldn’t have been kidnapped in the first place. Harry was finally dealing with that anger by speaking to his sister.

Chimney in meantime had learned that Maddie had been watching the baby when the baby almost drowned and so he finally realized what pushed Maddie away. He also realized that Buck knew. Buck spoke with Maddie. She told him why she was leaving and she asked him to check on Chimney. He tried to do that, but Chimney pushed him away when he learned about the drowning incident and so he was going after Maddie. He was taking the baby and he was going to find Maddie and he’d either come back with her or he wouldn’t come back at all.

THE END!
