General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that Cameron Mathison is set to play a Drew Cain recast according to reliable insiders. This is coming from the same people who first spilled that Nelle Benson (Chloe Lanier) was Nina Reeves’ (Cynthia Watros) daughter and that Franco Baldwin (Roger Howarth) would die, so we have every reason to believe Mathison is indeed the new Drew Cain.
It makes sense when you consider Mathison’s age and the secrecy surrounding his role. The show’s gone to a great deal of trouble to keep Mathison’s part under wraps, so that’s a huge tipoff that he’s playing someone recognizable – someone who’s a big deal!
Mathison will take over the role that was last played by Billy Miller, so this will be a very different version of Drew. It’ll be interesting to see Mathison’s spin on the character, who’ll return to Port Charles with quite a story to tell.
Cameron Mathison is debuting in a role that’s already established, so the show will have to explain where Drew’s been and what he’s been doing. According to a leaked script, Drew was secretly saved from the ocean following his plane crash.
Drew’s been stashed somewhere against his will by a mysterious boss ever since, so there’ll be some intriguing places to go with this storyline.
It’s nice to finally have some insider confirmation on Mathison’s GH character since it’s been such a hot topic of speculation. Although Mathison might seem like a rather unusual casting choice for Drew, he deserves a chance to make the role his own.
Drew’s exit was certainly a lackluster one, so it’s good that the show will undo it and give him the new chapter he deserves in PC.
Billy Miller fans will definitely miss seeing him as Drew, but Cameron Mathison is another well-known soap star who could have real staying power at GH and take the character in a new direction.
