General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that more info is coming in about Roger Howarth’s (ex-Franco Baldwin) upcoming return and the character he’ll be playing.
Once GH fans learned Franco would be killed off, some viewers became hopeful about a comeback for Todd Manning. However, Daytime Confidential explained how ABC shut down those Todd Manning return dreams in a new report.
When Howarth came on General Hospital back in 2012, he brought his One Life to Live character to Port Charles. Todd became part of the GH universe, but things changed following a lawsuit regarding Todd and several other OLTL characters who became part of an online reboot.
That led to Howarth taking on the role of a recast Franco in 2013.
Todd was popular with some fans, but he was problematic in some ways, too. Since Todd was a rapist, the ABC network reportedly didn’t love the idea of bringing him back and nixed the idea.
It makes sense considering Franco had a long list of past transgressions and that some viewers were never able to get over. Since Franco was a controversial character, it wouldn’t be a good plan to replace him by bringing back another controversial character.
There wouldn’t be much point and it might turn some fans against Howarth in this role from the get-go.
What Howarth needs is a character who can offer more of a clean slate and give him more love interest opportunities. There’s no word on who Howarth will be playing instead, but the good news is Howarth’s return is still in the works!
Howarth will just be playing someone else instead of Todd, so just keep that in mind if you were holding out hope for Todd’s big comeback.
Howarth will hopefully show up as a character with no past baggage to weigh him down. He’s a great actor who deserves to have more success and a wider appeal, so a brand-new role could offer Howarth that chance.
GH viewers will definitely look forward to Howarth’s return down the road.
