General Hospital (GH) spoilers tease that Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) will be furious over Nina Reeves’ (Cynthia Watros) prosecution and will fight back against Michael Corinthos’ (Chad Duell) extreme punishment.
GH fans know Michael contacted DA Sheridan (Richard Jahn) about his run for Pennsylvania Attorney General – and he mentioned a crime involving Nina that had not yet been prosecuted.
Michael then made a deal that gave DA Sheridan a high-profile crime to boost his campaign. Soon after, Sonny was taken aback as officers showed up to arrest Nina for identity fraud.
Of course, many viewers have been complaining about how absurd this plot twist is. Even if you hate Nina and want her to pay, it’s important to call the writers out when they’re being ridiculous. The story at least needs to make sense!
Nina didn’t steal Sonny’s identity or do anything besides withhold his name and info about his life.
Sonny had plenty of chances to look into who he was, but he repeatedly insisted he didn’t want to know. He was all about the future and didn’t want anything to do with his past.
Nina was wrong to keep Sonny’s identity a secret, but she didn’t put a gun to Sonny’s head and keep him as her captive.
There was nothing stopping Sonny from figuring out who he was. It’s not like Nina was running some con where she benefited financially from stealing personal info either.
Nina actually encouraged Sonny to dig into his true history on more than one occasion. She had the power to clarify things for Sonny, but was she really legally obligated to?
It would’ve been better if the show had turned the Peter August (Wes Ramsey) situation into conspiracy to commit murder charges or something along those lines.
After all, Nina did call Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati) to essentially hire a hit.
Nevertheless, they went the dumb identity fraud route and we’ll just have to roll with it.
Once Sonny gets updates on Michael being behind this, he isn’t going to like what his son’s trying to pull. Sonny will gripe to Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright), but he’s eventually going to confront Michael and may fly into a rage since he didn’t approve this.
Since Sonny was the victim here, Michael should’ve come to him first. Sonny surely won’t agree with Michael taking things that far and may intervene to get the charges dropped.
It’d be easy enough for Sonny to double or triple the campaign donation to undo Michael’s deal and make Nina’s legal problems go away.
Unfortunately, Sonny might infuriate Michael in the process and launch a major feud between them. Michael and Sonny tend to get along pretty well, but they’ve both changed since Sonny has a softer side from Nixon Falls while Michael’s gained more of an edge lately.
