General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that Cameron Mathison is joining the cast and will eventually make his debut as a mysterious character. Of course, that news already has fans buzzing about who Mathison might play!
The All My Children alum is a well-known name and someone who could make a real splash at General Hospital, so we have to consider the possibility that he’s a recast for a major role.
Could Mathison be the new Drew Cain? Billy Miller was last seen as Drew, but it seemed like there was some bad blood when he left. There’s no denying that GH did Miller dirty with a lackluster exit – and even before that, Miller wasn’t given a lot of quality material as Drew.
In other words, Billy Miller may not be keen on making a GH comeback, even if they asked him to. General Hospital might’ve turned elsewhere for a new Drew – and we’d say Mathison could be a good fit if that’s the role he indeed takes on.
Although Mathison’s version might take some getting used to, he’s a handsome and talented actor who would put his own spin on the part.
Recasts are an accepted part of the soap world, so GH fans could hopefully get on board with Mathison as Drew sooner or later.
There would certainly be value in bringing Drew back on canvas, especially if by some miracle Peter August (Wes Ramsey) survives his own reign of terror.
Undoing Drew’s death might provide a crucial bargaining chip if Peter finds himself backed into a corner. On the other hand, it’d be a great twist if Drew was the one to take Peter down!
Regardless, Drew’s return is needed – and a recast seems likely at this point. Now that we know Mathison is headed to General Hospital, it’s at least worth considering the idea that he’ll play a Drew recast.
GH buzz hints that Mathison will stick around for a while, so keep that in mind. We’ll provide updates as other GH details become available.
