Detective Lopez was back at work. She was off maternity leave and everyone was glad to see her. Sergeant Grey had to step out for a moment. He wanted to stop in to see Elijah Stone because everyone knows Stone hired the hitman who took shots into a public crowd and so Grey went to see Stone just to warn him off of a repeat performance. Stone of course pretended not to know what Grey was talking about. He was denying any part in hiring a hitman even as he hired Wes to defend the hitman. Wes and Grey almost ran into each other, but Wes hid in the back and he stayed there until Grey left. Wes didn’t want Grey to know he was working for Stone. Wes is both a lawyer and a friend. He was also Lopez’s husband. He didn’t want it getting back to her that he was now working for creeps like Stone.

It will probably come out soon. Until then, Wes was hiding it as best as he could and Grey just missed him. Grey was returning to the station when an emergency distress signal came in. Officer Nolan was calling for backup because his domestic dispute turned into something. This wasn’t unusual for Nolan because he was always stumbling onto something and so backup did come. Sergeant Bradford and Officer Chen arrived. They had just missed a shootout that took place. Nolan had to explain what happened. He was called by a concerned neighbor who saw a woman stumbling through several backyards and there were also two men looking for this woman. One of the men claimed to be Daniel Charles and he said his wife Linda was bipolar and that she was off her medication.

Nolan later found this supposed Linda stumbling around. It was clear she had been drugged and was confused. He was just getting her into the back of his car when her “husband” showed up with his friend. They demanded that Linda be handed over to them. Nolan denied the requests and that’s when the bullets began to fly. Linda ran off in the confusion. The two guys looking for her went after she and Nolan were left unharmed. Nolan later told Bradford and Chen about what happened. They went to the house where Linda was staying and they found out it was a front. It was a safehouse for spies. Bradford recognized it instantly for what it was. He also told them to take as many pictures as possible because the feds were going to be called and the feds would push them off the case. And that’s exactly what happened.

FBI Special Agent Weston came in with his own team. He more or less dismissed the LAPD and so Bradford informed Nolan and Chen to continue looking into the spies. They learned that the woman at the heart of the case was identified as Katerina Antonov. She came into the country on a visa and she was seen dating Air Force Major Lyle Marks. She was clearly spying on him and something went wrong. The men sent to collect her had arrived in the country two weeks ago and their objective seems to be capturing Katerina. Chen, Nolan, and Bradford told Weston what they found. He was able to rope them into the investigation and he told them what he’s learned since they tipped him off. He learned that Marks was in charge of the drone program in LA. And that he’s basically in control of the whole thing.

Meanwhile, Officer Harper made a break in their serial killer case. She and her rookie spotted a broken-down bicycle and the bicycle led them to a missing man. The missing man was a former addict. Witnesses say that a car hit him and that driver then carried the man inside into the car and that the driver claimed he was taking the man to the hospital. Only they never arrived at the hospital. Harper called around and there were no reports of a man hit on the bike and so that’s when Harper started making connections. She realized that the serial killer had struck again. There was a serial killer targeting addicts and putting them into abandoned buildings and setting the place on fire. They’ve killed at least twice before. Harper figured out whoever did this was about to kill again. And so she went looking at abandoned buildings.

And she got lucky. She found the serial killer right as he was setting the fire and while the killer got away it hadn’t stopped Harper from saving the latest victim’s life. She got him to the hospital. She also needed to be checked out herself because of smoke inhalation and she was still answering questions from Lopez about what she saw while Nolan remembered something. Nolan remembered seeing Katerina with something in her hands. She dropped it when she escaped and so Nolan realized whatever she dropped must still be in his car. He stopped by the department to check on the car with his girlfriend. They had just found a thumb drive when Katerina showed up. Katerina took Nolan’s girlfriend hostage and she demanded the thumb drive. The thumb driver named names on who had been involved in a drone strike.

Katerina wanted those names because those people involved had killed her brother. He was a doctor and he had been at the wrong place at the wrong time. He died from that drone strike. Katerina wanted revenge and her interest in revenge went against Russia’s interests and so that’s why they’re trying to kill her. But Nolan got the upper hand on Katerina and they arrested her. Katerina was later handed over to the feds and that was it for the case. Just not for Nolan and his girlfriend. The two of them decided that maybe it was time to have a normal date and so they carefully planned a date in which no one gets harmed, kidnapped, or killed.

And Wes’s client was killed inside of a prison because someone heard that Wes was talking to the guy about turning on Stone but Stone decided to issue Wes with one final warning.
