The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers recap for Thursday, September 9, reveals that Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) will be forced to consider if he’s settling for Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) while Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) finds it embarrassing to be lonely. Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) will also establish a new role that Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) disapproves of, so here’s what Y&R fans can expect.
At the Abbott mansion, Jack will make a bittersweet discovery when he spots Harrison Locke’s (Kellen Enriquez) toy soldier.
After a sad smile, Jack will send Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) and his family a text. Phyllis will see it through the group chat and pay Jack a late-night visit since she’ll suspect he’s lonely.
“You have no idea,” Jack will ultimately admit. He’ll think it’s embarrassing to be lonely at this stage of his life, but Phyllis will shut down that idea.
After Phyllis makes a comment about being born alone and dying alone, Jack will chuckle over the reality check.
When talk turns to Sally, Jack will guess he was hoping she would turn into Phyllis.
After Jack admits that Phyllis is still the most captivating, fascinating woman he’s ever known, Phyllis will get uncomfortable.
Jack will rattle off some negative qualities as well, but he’ll think Phyllis is a pretty spectacular package overall.
Phyllis will try to act like Jack’s had too much to drink, but he’ll insist he’s saying all these things because they’re true.
Jack will feel like maybe he hasn’t moved on in his romantic life because he already had the most amazing woman and set the bar too high.
Once Jack admits he never stopped loving Phyllis and doesn’t think he ever will, he’ll acknowledge that Phyllis has moved on with Nick.
Even so, Jack will insist he loves Phyllis truly and deeply. He’ll feel like he has to live with that since he can’t stop.
After Phyllis steps in the kitchen, she’ll return with water and urge Jack to hydrate. Phyllis will find Jack asleep on the sofa, so she’ll cover him up and head back to her suite.
At Crimson Lights, Sharon Rosales (Sharon Case) will get updates from Nick on all the launch party drama.
When Nick admits he thinks Sally was there was Adam’s date, Sharon will seem surprised. She’ll call it “interesting” and won’t think Nick should read anything more into her reaction than that.
Nick will get that it must be hard for Sharon to completely cut Adam out of her life.
Nick will wonder if Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) understands that as well, but Sharon will act like all couples have issues and do the best that they can.
Nick will suggest that his own relationship is simple now since he’s stopped worrying about Phyllis’ meddling and hasn’t been giving her ultimatums anymore. He’ll suggest he’s accepted who Phyllis is and is just rolling with it.
When Sharon hints about that sounding easy and comfortable, Nick will feel like she’s implying that he’s settling.
Nick will point out that he could say the same thing about Rey and Sharon when it comes to being easy and comfortable. In the end, Sharon will think it’s good that they’re all happy and will get Nick to help her close the place up.
At the ranch, Sally will arrive after being summoned via text by Victor, who’ll offer her a drink. Sally will mention having an amazing single malt scotch the other evening, so Victor will ask if Adam introduced her to it.
Sally will contend that she was vaguely aware of it before – though it’s not something her budget really allows her to indulge in.
Victor will act like Sally’s underestimating herself and will mention how she went from assistant to running JCV – the job his granddaughter once held.
Sally will decide this meeting must be about Summer Newman (Hunter King). She’ll contend that she already got the message from Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) on that.
Victor will hint that if he’d intervened earlier, things might’ve turned out differently. Sally will think that sounds like a threat, but Victor will deny it.
They’ll eventually shift the conversation to Connor Newman (Judah Mackey) and how he’s aware of the tension between his mother and father.
Victor will act like what Sally views as harmless flirting and socializing could have unwanted consequences.
However, Sally won’t really think it’s Victor’s place to dictate his adult son’s life or hers for that matter.
Victor will turn serious and make it clear that Sally shouldn’t use Adam as a way to salvage her lackluster career. He’ll warn that arguing with him will be Sally’s worst mistake yet.
Suddenly, Adam will show up and will realize Victor’s been talking to Sally about Connor.
Adam will push Sally to leave and will wonder why Victor was dumping all that on her. Victor will rant about Sally being a social climber and will remind Adam of Connor’s emotionally fragile state.
Victor won’t get why Adam’s rubbing his relationship with Sally in everyone’s face hoping for a reaction.
Adam will contend that Victor’s slipping back into old habits with all his micromanaging. He’ll insist it’s the same sort of behavior that’s driven them apart in the past.
As for Sally, she’ll wind up at Society and will fill the bartender in on her Newman troubles. “To my boss’ father…jerk,” Sally will say as the lifts her glass to Victor.
Sally will eventually decide that it was Adam’s loss, though it could’ve been fun. She’ll imagine Adam kissing her to make his own point – and then she’ll imagine passion escalating in a suite. When Adam arrives and calls Sally’s name, it’ll snap her back to reality.
Adam will apologize for Victor since he was way out of line, but he’ll also admit he’s reevaluated the situation based on what his dad said.
Adam won’t think they should see each other outside the office anymore.
“Should…that’s a word that I have eliminated from my vocabulary,” Sally will insist. She’ll talk about how you either choose to do something or you don’t – regardless of what’s expected or how others might react.
“And if people don’t like it, that’s their problem. To hell with ‘em,” Sally will add as she moves in close to Adam and struts out.
That’ll leave Adam looking both a tad amused and pensive.
While Sally’s making that speech, viewers will see Nick sitting on Phyllis’ bed lost in thought.
Phyllis will pretend to be asleep, but she’ll secretly be brooding next to Nick.
Jack will rub his face as he reflects at home – and Sharon will also seem thoughtful as she flips the closed sign at the coffeehouse.
