The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Tuesday, September 14 Recap – Ashland's Abusive Father & Poor Childhood – Mariah's Nanny Sulk

The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers recap for Tuesday, September 14, teases that Ashland Locke (Richard Burgi) will reveal he had an abusive father and a poor childhood. Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) will also cause some nanny drama, so here’s what Y&R fans can look forward to.

At the Abbott mansion, Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) will inform Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) that he won’t be attending Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) and Summer Newman’s (Hunter King) marriage ceremony.

Billy will rattle off a list of reasons and point out he’s already having to take time off for Ashland and Victoria Newman’s (Amelia Heinle) wedding anyway.

Billy will admit that although he’s trying to be civil, his investigative team keeps bringing him reasons to think Victoria’s making a big mistake.

Jack will argue that if Billy digs up something substantial, Victoria’s only going to resent him.

Jack won’t think finding dirt is worth the family drama it’ll cause, especially since Ashland won’t be in Victoria’s life for long.

Afterward, Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) will run into Billy at Society. When Billy asks about the wedding, Nikki won’t think Billy should pretend to care.

Nikki will know Billy’s still hoping for a way to blow up the nuptials. Billy will deny that and act like he’s just doing what the press typically does as far as coverage goes.

Nikki will rant about Billy’s personal agenda and will warn that he’ll regret it if he hurts Victoria.

Billy will take note of the threat, but he’ll assure Nikki that he’s on Victoria’s side and doesn’t want to see her get hurt either.

It’ll surprise Billy that Nikki isn’t more concerned about Ashland – particularly since there’s no real documented history of the first two decades of his life.

Nikki’s reaction will tell Billy that Victoria hasn’t shared that information with her.

At Newman Media, Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) will talk to Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) about how there are no records of Ashland’s early life.

After Victor’s latest conversation with Ashland, his instinct will tell him that Ashland is hiding something.

Nick will wonder if it’s morally right to dig into Ashland’s past since it could be something he’s simply ashamed of. However, Victor will think his priority has to be protecting Victoria.

Later, Jack will find Nick looking pensive at Crimson Lights. Nick will admit he’s wrestling with something and will want to ask Jack a question.

“Do Phyllis and I seem like a good fit to you?” Nick will ask a stunned Jack.

Jack will stammer about how perhaps he’s not the right person to ask due to his own history with Phyllis, but Nick will want his take anyway.

Although Nick is in a good place with Phyllis, he’ll worry that maybe things could be going too smoothly.

If the past predicts the future, Nick will wonder if they might be headed for another massive train wreck.

At home, Ashland will confess that there’s a reason the trail about his past leads nowhere. He’ll add that he covered it up because he didn’t want the world to know the truth about where he really came from.

Ashland always gave reporters the story that he had a happy upbringing in a normal suburban family, but he’ll admit it’s far from the truth.

Ashland will reveal that his father was abusive and violent. His mother turned a blind eye to it – and they lived well below the poverty line.

When the family did have money, it instantly went to alcohol because that was the priority in Ashland’s house above everything else – including food.

Ashland will explain that the circumstances of the abuse became too much to take, so he left home at 16 and put that life behind him.

Ashland took odd jobs up and down the Jersey coast. He also moved around a lot to avoid attracting attention, but being alone was paradise compared to where he came from.

Ashland took every precaution to stay off the radar since his worst nightmare was his father dragging him home.

Ashland eventually changed his name to cut ties with his past permanently – and that’s when Ashland Locke was born.

Ashland will add that he found his calling along with his mentor, Camilla Rhodes, at those news stations. It led to a way forward and allowed Ashland to build his empire.

Suddenly, Ashland will struggle to breathe and seem like he’s overdoing it with this stressful conversation.

Ashland will shut down Victoria’s idea of calling his doctor or Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic) and will just want to rest for a bit.

Victoria will be taken aback by all the new info, but she’ll be impressed by everything Ashland has overcome. She’ll actually feel closer to Ashland since he was willing to be so open with her.

After Nikki shows up, she’ll speak with Victoria privately about Ashland’s mysterious past. Victoria will gripe about Nikki joining Billy’s crusade and will argue that there’s nothing that’ll change her mind about Ashland.

Although Victoria would hate to have her wedding without everyone there, she’ll suggest she’ll be forced to uninvite them if they don’t back off.

Ashland will return from the kitchen and declare it’s time to put the suspicions to rest once and for all.

Back at the coffeehouse, Jack won’t get why Nick would question the love he has with Phyllis, but Nick will fear they’re playing it safe. Jack will insist that everyone deserves happiness – no matter where it comes from.

Once Nick gets a text from Nikki, he’ll have to take off. Nick will thank Jack for the advice and leave Jack sitting there deep in thought.

Victor and Billy will also get summoned to the ranch since Ashland will have something to tell all of them.

Soon after, Ashland will make a speech as he builds up to the reason he’s gathered everyone. He’ll be ready to tell Victor, Nikki, Nick and Billy who the man who’s fallen in love with Victoria really is.

As for Jack, he’ll head home and have a lengthy flashback involving his “soulmate” Phyllis accepting his marriage proposal.

After Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) arrives at the Chancellor mansion, Abby Newman (Melissa Ordway) will have an announcement to make at the family meeting.

Abby will reveal that she’s starting to plan Dominic Newman-Abbott-Chancellor’s baptism, so she’d love it if Devon and Mariah would be Dominic’s godparents.

Once Devon and Mariah insist that they’d be honored, Abby will note that it’s not like the old days of taking responsibility if something happens to the parents.

It’s more like a promise that they’ll love and guide the baby throughout his life, so Mariah and Devon tell Abby they’re all in.

Next, Abby will suggest they should talk about choosing a nanny.

That news will throw Mariah for a loop since she was expecting Abby to let one of them take care of Dominic. Abby will insist she’s having the candidates thoroughly vetted and that safety won’t be an issue.

Mariah will pipe up that she’s happy to help with the baby, but Abby will feel like Mariah and Tessa Porter (Cait Fairbanks) will probably move out at some point.

Abby will want to get Dominic on a routine now and will suggest that Mariah will want to get back to her job at Jabot.

Abby will assure Devon and Mariah that they’ll find a nanny they can all agree on, so Mariah will thank Abby for including her – though she’ll still look disappointed.

After Mariah and Tessa leave, Abby will admit to Devon that she thought Mariah would be happier about the godmother title.

Abby wanted everything to be perfect, so she’ll struggle to figure out how she’s supposed to fix this.

At the park, Mariah will complain to Tessa about the godmother role feeling like a consolation prize. She’ll be upset about the nanny situation since it’ll just mean less time for her to spend with Dominic.

Mariah will also call Tessa out for telling Abby she was a mess and getting worse by the minute since she overheard them talking.

Tessa will insist she never called Mariah a mess and will be sorry if she overstepped, but she won’t think there’s anything wrong with Mariah needing help.

However, Mariah will speculate that’s where Abby got this nanny idea and will rant about what Abby must think of her now.

After Devon gives Abby a pep talk back at the mansion, he’ll suggest that Mariah deserves time to work through everything.

Dominic will start crying for his latest feeding, but Abby won’t be able to get him to take his bottle.

When Mariah and Tessa return, Mariah will also try her luck and fail to calm Dominic down.

It’ll ultimately be Devon who has the magic touch and gets Dominic to stop crying in his arms.

The Young and the Restless spoilers say Devon and Dominic’s bond will lead to more complications, so stay tuned.
