The Young and the Restless Spoilers Update: Thursday, January 21 – Phyllis Sees Abby’s Meltdown – Jack’s Bad News

The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoiler update for Thursday, January 21, teases that Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland) has a worried look on her face when Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) walks in the Abbott mansion living room.

Traci insists it’s not her place to tell Jack what’s wrong, but he won’t let it go. Traci finally relents, but only so Jack won’t inadvertently say something to upset Abby Newman-Abbott-Chancellor (Donny Boaz).

At the Chancellor mansion, Abby imagines Chance Chancellor (Donny Boaz) angrily offering updates to his mom about how there’s no chance of having a child with Abby. “Zero! Zilch! Nada!” Chance shouts into the phone. He talks about Abby having a miscarriage when she was married to that doctor with the “psycho kid.”

Chance rants about how he doesn’t see the point if he can’t have a baby with Abby and questions what kind of future they could really have. Abby snaps back to reality and Chance isn’t there, so she lets out a heavy sigh and clutches the “baby’s first Christmas” ornament that Chance gave her.

Next on Thursday’s Young and the Restless episode, Chance checks in with Abby and asks if she slept well. Abby admits not really and talks about all the thoughts that are racing through their mind. She turns down food and insists she needs to be alone right now.

Abby wants time to think since it’s really hard for her to not feel like a failure right now.

Chance wants to go with Abby on her drive, but she says that defeats the purpose. “I feel like you’re not listening to me right now. I need some time to be alone,” Abby repeats. She assures Chance this has nothing to do with him, but Chance wants to go through this together.

Abby gets agitated since she wants everything with Chance – including kids. She’s feeling anger, sadness, loss and guilt. Chance questions why, but Abby shuts him down again. After Chance finally lets Abby go, he promises to be waiting when she returns.

Once Chance is alone, Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) comes over to check up on Abby. He was afraid that Abby was traumatized after everything that’s gone down. Chance explains that Abby needed to be alone. “And you let her be by herself in this state of mind?” Victor wonders.

Chance insists it was the last thing he wanted and complains about Victor further breaking Abby’s heart with the phone calls to other specialists. He feels that could’ve waited, but Victor argues that he’s Abby’s father and will do what he wants. Speaking as Abby’s husband, Chance counters that it didn’t help.

At Society, Abby pours a drink and imagines Victor talking to Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) at a table nearby. Victor’s concerned about Abby shutting everyone out. Nikki talks about the tragic incident that resulted in Abby’s first miscarriage and is keeping her from having a child now. Victor’s worried about how far this downward spiral will go.

As the vision continues, Abby contends that there’s nothing Victor and Nikki can do. Nikki tells Victor that Abby’s loved and supported. Abby just has to let people in. Victor just wishes Abby would recognize the options she has. After Abby snaps out back to reality again, she storms out of the restaurant.

At Crimson Lights, Abby walks in and finds Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes), who asks how Abby’s doing. Chance has been nothing but a sweetheart according to Abby. She almost felt pitied “because he knows that I’m broken and so does everyone else.”

Mariah tries to shut down that talk, but Abby frets about how she’ll never be able to post the social media baby announcements she sees every day. Abby thinks it’s messed up that other women get pregnant by mistake and she can’t even do it on purpose.

Mariah assures Abby that this isn’t her fault and gets Abby to admit that she doesn’t feel like other women are broken when they can’t have children. Mariah insists that what they feel for Abby is love, not pity.

They’re just sad that this is the hand Abby’s been dealt and want to be there for her. Mariah tells Abby to go home and get some rest since tomorrow’s going to be a better day.

Back with Traci, she talks to Jack about how much Abby wishes Dina Mergeron (Marla Adams) could’ve seen her first child. Jack reflects on feeling cheated about not raising a child of his from birth. Talk turns to Traci suffering the greatest loss a parent can have.

Traci found strength to channel her pain over losing Colleen Carlton (Tammin Sursok) into positive qualities. “I don’t want to be resilient or graceful. I just want my Colleen back,” Traci says as she gets choked up.

Traci wonders what it’d be like if Colleen were still around. Maybe Traci would be a grandmother! Jack assures Traci that she’d be a good one.

Jack fears he put too much pressure on Abby through the “teardrop of love” legend, but Traci disagrees. She feels like Jack gave their family a beautiful gift. Jack’s grateful that they can still open up to each other like this, and Traci promises that’s never going to change.

Jack thinks he’s sounding like his dad these days, so Traci suggests they’re just alike – which is what Jack always wanted.

Over with Chance, he apologizes if he came off as angry earlier. Victor understands that Chance is frustrated and notes that he doesn’t deserve this anymore than Abby does. Victor suggests they have some tequila and keep talking.

Chance talks about his plans of having multiple children with Abby. This just isn’t something they expected to go through so early in the marriage. Victor reflects on creating an empire at Chance’s age, but his whole perspective changed when he had kids.

Victor then wanted to build a legacy and having children changed his life for the better immeasurably.

Chance wants kids as much as Abby has and admits he’s daydreamed about them. Abby’s recent news has changed his vision in part, but he hasn’t changed how he feels about Abby. “There is nothing that can push me away from her.

Not in a million years!” Chance exclaims. He suggests he wouldn’t be much of a man if he pushes away the woman he loves over a single setback.

Victor is glad that Chance is in Abby’s life. Chance praises Victor for being a devoted father before Victor suggests Abby went through an incredible trauma. In fact, Abby’s been through a lot in her life.

Victor’s certain that Abby will get through this. Chance can’t wait to get rolling on the vision for the future they’ve planned – to follow through on the promises in his vows.

Victor has seen a lot of families find other avenues of having children. The question is: Will Abby be willing to embrace a new vision of having a family? Victor wonders if Chance will support that new vision if Abby does.

Abby makes her way to The Grand Phoenix to book a room for one. Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) needles Abby about having a fight with Chance, but Abby argues she’s just having personal issues.

Phyllis is stuck on the fight thing, but Abby gets increasingly irritated. “Personal issues! Room! Now!” Abby shouts.

Phyllis feels like Abby’s about to fall apart in her hotel, so Abby says Phyllis would love that. She decides coming there was a big mistake, but Phyllis stops her and says the room’s on her. Phyllis seems rattled after Abby heads up to her suite.

Once Abby’s inside, she texts Chance about getting a room at The Grand Phoenix. Abby’s message says she just needs to sleep and that she loves Chance. The next morning, Victor arrives and finds Phyllis at the front desk. They briefly discuss Abby being a mess the night before, but Phyllis admits it’s not her business.

In Abby’s room, she has a dream about a crying baby and goes over to comfort the little one. Abby wakes up to see that the room’s empty and checks a text from Chance, which assures her there’s no pressure about coming home.

Abby eventually ends up in the lobby and questions why Victor’s there. She wonders if Phyllis called Victor over. “I didn’t call him! We don’t talk!” Phyllis snaps.

Victor claims he forgot Abby didn’t own the hotel and had a business meeting. Abby suggests she’s feeling a bit better, so Victor says to call him if she needs anything.

After Abby’s gone, Phyllis takes credit for the fact that Abby’s mood has improved. “She found the answers in the magical place that is The Grand Phoenix,” Phyllis says.

Since the hotel is all hers now, Phyllis thinks she deserves to know what’s going on. Victor tells Phyllis to have a nice day and refuses to divulge anything more.

On Thursday’s Y&R episode, Abby comes home to Chance and lets him know they need to talk. Chance is all hers for as long as Abby needs him. Chance assures Abby that he’s in love with her from the bottom of his heart. He doesn’t want to fix this or tell Abby how to feel.

Chance just wants to be right next to Abby through every part of this.

Abby confesses that she’s devastated and hearing the news multiple times from different doctors crushed her. It was the biggest disappointment of her life. Even though Abby can’t get pregnant, she can still be a mom. They can still be parents and argue over Chance’s really bad baby names.

Abby knows they have to start over and look at all the options. She wants to make sure Chance still wants that. Chance absolutely agrees, but he doesn’t want Abby to rush for his sake.

Abby promises this is what she wants 100 percent. She laughs about how annoying she’ll be about her research, but they’ll be Mommy and Daddy no matter what.

The Young and the Restless spoilers say Abby will turn to Mariah as a surrogate option next week, so stay tuned to hear her pitch! CDL will have other great Young and the Restless spoilers, updates and news for you, so stop by often for more Y&R details.
