One of Frank’s people came across a young mean beating on a cop. Lt Gormley intervened and he even came to arrest the young man once he learned the kid was a drug dealer selling to other kids. He jumped the cop when he tried to intervene. There was also a crowd surrounding them. The crowd was chanting “no cops on campus” and was encouraging the teenager into beating on the cop. The crowd was comprised of both students as well as teachers. The hatred for cops has gone up in the city and it was getting dangerous. Frank later contacted the Board of Education Deputy Chancellor, Hoffman.

Hoffman defended the young man. She said the cop acted aggressively and that Gormley had further roughed up the young man when he arrested him. Technically, the kid was only sixteen. Only he has a record since he was twelve and he was a drug dealer. The Board of Education Deputy Chancellor had tried to argue the cops were in the wrong. It didn’t play well to Frank. Frank said the incident would be investigated and Hoffman scoffed because she said it would be investigated by other cops. Frank was having a problem with educators who hated police presence on campus. They thought it was too much.

Frank on the other hand noted that school violence has gone down thanks to the extra police presence. The cop that got into the altercation wasn’t even a full cop. He was a school safety agent and he didn’t care about a gun. School Safety Agent Fernandez was later asked to come to Frank’s office. Frank asked him about what happened and Fernandez basically said that the kid expected to do whatever he wanted without consequences. He wanted to sell drugs and get into fights. Fernandez intervenes and he gets to call the bad guy. And if he didn’t intervene, the teachers and students would have called cops “useless”.

It was an uphill battle. Frank was doing the best he could while he was a commissioner and his work ethic was copied by his children. Jamie was a Sergeant. Jamie overheard some of the rookie cops hassling a minority officer and he stepped in. He also talked to Officer Santos about it. He asked him if he was okay with the jokes. Santos said he was, but this didn’t stop Jamie and he constantly tried to intervene to the point that Santos turned on him. Santos filed a complaint against Jamie. He did it because he didn’t want the other guys to think he was ratting on them and even Jamie’s boss thought he should let it go.

Jamie’s boss was also a minority. He was Spanish and he grew up getting hassled over being that all his life. He even got it from other officers when he joined the force. So, the guy understood where Santos was coming from and he tried to warn Jamie to back off. Jamie therefore only had himself to blame when Santos chose to report him rather than the people he has to work with every day. Jamie later talked about it with his grandpa. Grandpa Henry said he remembered as a kid what happened when he brought blood sausage to school as a kid. He got ragged on and he didn’t eat the food for years.

Then Henry became a cop. He met an Italian officer who brought in some intestines and he remembered ragging on him until it dawned on him that he’s been on the other side of that fight. Henry told Jamie that he could stand up for what he believes in and still be a part of the cop family. Jamie took that to heart. He tried supporting other officers as best he could. Danny meanwhile was searching for a missing mother and daughter. Christine Adams disappeared with her daughter Emmy Farmer. She had full custody of the little girl and she has a great job, but she wasn’t an American citizen and she skipped several hearings to help her case and so a negative action was about to be taken against her.

Christine ran once she realized that. She ditched her car and cell phone. She didn’t contact her ex-husband or let him tell their daughter goodbye. She just ran with the little girl. Will Farmer, the ex-husband, reported them missing to the cops. He didn’t know Christine wasn’t a citizen. He just wanted his daughter found and so he told Danny that she spoke French and Danny was able to track them down from there. Christine and her daughter were found trying to board a train to Montreal. Danny convinced her to turn herself in. ICE was willing to grant her an emergency appeal and she could fight her deportation.

But Danny realized something. Danny realized that Christine would never have missed her hearing if she knew about it and so Danny came to the conclusion that someone was stealing her mail to make sure that she was deported. Someone like Will. Danny later arrested Emmy’s father once he realized he committed a federal offense to get custody.

Frank meanwhile went to the high school to announce at the school meeting with parents that the officer they hated being there had done his job. He confiscated pistols and semiautomatic weapons. He kept their kids safe and he was able to do so without a gun. Meaning the cop wasn’t the bad guy. The drug dealer was.

And Erin made sure to watch over Anthony’s back just as much as he does her and so she protected him from some serious charges by pushing a perp down a flight of stairs.
