The Good Doctor Recap 03/07/22: Season 5 Episode 9 "Yippee Ki-Yay"

Tonight on NBC their new medical drama “The Good Doctor” airs with an all-new Monday, March 7, 2022, episode and we have you The Good Doctor recap below. On tonight’s The Good Doctor season 5 episode, 9 called, “Rebellion,” as per the ABC synopsis, “In an effort to please Salen (Rachel Bay Jones), Andrews takes on a high-profile case and assigns Shaun and Allen to help perform a risky surgery to restore the voice of a famous pop star.

In addition, Reznick and Park treat a man whose 17-year-old son, Cody (Mathew Horner), is confined to a wheelchair due to complications related to Kabuki Syndrome.”

Tonight’s episode begins with Jordan, there is a knock at her door and it is Lea who asks her if she has a couch. At the hospital, Audrey walks in surprised, Marcus was made Chief of Surgery and Salen didn’t tell her. In an emergency, Morgan is attending Joe who was helping Cody into his wheelchair and he had a fall. Alex walks in to assist. Elsewhere, Jordan and Shaun are attending a patient named Nelly, and Jordan is a huge fan of hers. Shaun finds a concern and Marcus orders a CT.

Salen walks into where Audrey is going through her things, she tells her that expects her to move on. Dr. Novick at St. Jose General is looking for a new head of trauma, it will be more money and a fresh start, he is expecting her call. Salen tells her that she is sorry she couldn’t get on board with her approach, they could have crushed it.

Morgan is stitching up Cody’s arm, he talks about his dad, says he had to quit his job to take care of him.

Jordan tells Shaun that Lea is sleeping on her couch. She tells him that he is digging up things that are not relevant. She reminds him that she loves her for who she is, a flawed and totally wonderful human being. They are looking over Nelly’s images, Shaun was right, they can’t do the surgery. Marcus says a transplant is still a viable option, Nelly has to decide if it is worth the risk. Shaun says that even if the surgery is successful she may have a different voice. Nelly wants the surgery, no matter what.

Joe’s arm is permanently paralyzed, that is why he was feeling no pain. If they operate, he could be paralyzed in multiple limbs. Joe says he can’t take care of Cody with one arm, there will be a good chance that his son will be institutionalized. Both Morgan and Alex don’t think he should have the surgery, but Cody wants it.

Nelly’s sister visits her in the hospital, she disagrees with the surgery. They get into an argument and Nelly tells her that she should have her seatbelt on when she crashed her car.

Audrey goes to see Dr. Novick regarding the job.

Shaun tells Marcus that Nelly’s surgery is bad, Marcus wonders why he is contrary. Jordan tells Marcus that Lea is sleeping on his couch.

Jordan is getting ready for a date when Lea walks in with beer and pizza. Jordan tells her to give her a beer, she canceled her date.

Dr. Novick called Aaron to see if he could poach Audrey and he tells her to get out while she can. Audrey tells him that this is her home, she won’t let Salen ruin it, she is going to fight for it.

Shaun tells Nelly’s sister that she should go see her, this may be her last chance. Her sister says that she lost her sister that night already. Shaun gets a page, Nelly is crashing.

In surgery, Audrey says she is staying but it won’t be easy. Marcus tells her they are on her side. Olivia and Shaun are not, there is too much to risk.

Meanwhile, Cody is freaking out he thinks there is something wrong because Joe is taking a long time in surgery, he gets so upset that he passes out. Joe makes it through surgery, he is told that he is paraplegic now, there were complications. He wants to see Cody, he is told that he is in the ICU, he had a panic attack and caused a problem in his aorta from his childhood surgery.

Joe is wheeled in to see Cody, he says his legs got messed up when they tried to fix his arm. Joe tells him that he is going to have a new home and he can’t go with him, they can’t manage with the two of them in the chairs. Cody is seeing double, Morgan says they need to get an MRI.

Nelly’s sister visits her and they make up.

Shaun goes to see Lea and makes up with her, she is happy.

Cody has a small tumor on his pancreas, if they remove it, he may be able to walk. Joe says no, he can’t take the risk with Cody. Morgan tells him that if this works, they can make it together as a team. Meanwhile, Nelly is crashing in surgery and Shaun tells Marcus it is all his fault, she is going to die. Nelly is back, Marcus is shocked and so is everyone else. Nelly had a bleed that would kill most people. After recovery, she is able to talk.

Cody has the surgery and it is a success, he and Joe can continue to be a team. Shaun looks upset that he was wrong, he walks out of the room. Aaron sees him and tells him that the surgery was a success, that is a good thing. Shaun says she is alive because of her clotting factors, it had nothing to do with them. Shaun says that this is Salen’s fault, she is ruining everything. Elsewhere, Salen serves Marcus a drink to congratulate him on Nelly’s surgery, he says he got lucky. Shaun walks in, he tells Salen that she made Marcus a bad doctor and he needs to leave before she makes him a bad doctor. Then he says he quits and walks out. Aaron goes to see Audrey and tells her that he is in. Audrey says let’s run her bandit ass out of town.
