Tonight’s The Resident episode begins with Carol’s funeral, Conrad gives AJ a big hug, then Devon. AJ says that when his father died three years ago his mother wanted to plant a tree to mark his grave. She said that even after death she wanted to be by his side. Randolph picks up a shovel and starts to dig a hole for a tree that they have here to plant.

The next day, Randolph is worried about his will, he tells Kit that if he drops dead everything goes to his ex-wife and he needs to make sure it benefits her, Jake, and Sammy. She tells him to leave it all to them, she has everything she wants. She tells him that she loves him to the moon and back, and because Georgia doesn’t recognize common law, they agree to get married.

Conrad is treating a woman, Terry, who came in because she has a burn on her own that looks severely infected. Meanwhile, Devon brings Leela a coffee and he wants to talk. He says they have barely spoken since he offered to be her sperm donor. Leela has to go, she volunteered for another shift and will be assisting in surgery. Kincaid gives Leela the chance to back out, but she won’t.

A man comes into the emergency from a fall at work, he may have broken many ribs. Devon is treating him and they have one shot to help this guy as his left lung may have collapsed. They manage to stabilize him and rush him into the OR while they call AJ.

Padma is sitting with AJ, he is thinking fast forward, he has a ton of papers for her, and a trust fund is one of them. Padma tells him that they are not creating a family and visitation will only be on her schedule, occasionally. He tells her that he knows she is a free spirit but his child will not be raised in a van.

Conrad finds that Terry has a lot of pills on her and they are all fraudulent prescriptions written by Chastain doctors. But, before he deals with it, he decides to treat her arm and gain her trust, maybe she will tell him more about where she got them.

AJ invites Leela into surgery with him and she goes, they discuss Padma and being a sperm donor. The patient has trouble in surgery and Leela makes a call, but the wrong one. AJ tells her to get her head in the game.

AJ meets with Padma and offers her his mother’s house. He tells her that he has crossed the line, she is not interested anymore and walks away.

Devon finds Padma in an office, she tells him that everything is terrible. She says it seems that she has chosen the wrong father. AJ will make a great dad, but not to her child, she should not have rushed into this and weighed all her options. He asks her if Leela told her about his offer, she didn’t know anything about it. Padma says she didn’t tell her but this would solve everything.

Leela is in another surgery with Kit and Billie, she is obviously exhausted and did not ask to back out.

Conrad tells Terry that the same pharmacist that filled her prescriptions was killed in the hospital, her name was Phoebe Moffatt. Terry knew her and says she was not like them, she was a good egg and fell on hard times. Conrad tells her that she is being taken advantage of and they don’t want anyone else to die. Terry says she tells them, but she wants her name out of it. She says she had some hard times, she was looking for a place to lay her head. A bus showed up, she thought they were passing out free meals.

They were bussing people with Medicare cards and she had no idea where she was going. They brought her into a building that looked more like a massage parlor. They didn’t even bother with an exam, they just wrote prescriptions and sent them to Phoebe to fill them. They would then hand over the drugs for cash when they were on the return bus. And, they were scary people. The pills were worth a lot of money, so she skimmed so she could sell them on the street because they only gave her $50. They would bring the drugs to some warehouse near Hektar’s Kitchen. She tells Conrad to remember the deal, tell the FBI but keep her name out of it.

In surgery, Neela falls asleep and drops an instrument and causing a massive bleed. Kit orders her to go home.

The FBI is saying goodbye to Kincaid and Conrad, as they are approaching the building they see a man stare at them from a vehicle, it is the same guy that was on the bus with Terry collecting the meds in exchange for the money.

Padma meets Leela in the hallway and asks why she didn’t tell her about Devon. Leela says it is crazy and not a good option for them. Leela tells her that she gave her everything, but she will not share Devon.

Kit asks Randolph if he was aware that Leela was doing double duty and her patient paid the price, it could have been catastrophic.

AJ sees Padma upset, he tells her that he grew up in foster care and he wants the best for his child. He tells her that she would have to meet him halfway, he cannot bring a child into the world and ignore it. He needs a relationship and a connection, so if she doesn’t want that, he has to bow out gracefully. She tells him he is right, she was wrong to trivialize his involvement. He tells her the van is a deal-breaker.

Kincaid and Conrad sit down, she tells him that she is tired of running. He sits close to her and puts his arm around her.

At home, Devon walks in and finds Leela sitting down with a glass of wine. She tells her that she was asked to leave surgery after she almost paralyzed her patient. Kit gave her a week to pick a specialty. He tells her that she pushes herself too hard. She stands up and tells him that he went behind her back and spoke to Padma. He says he was trying to help. She tells him that she doesn’t want kids, not now, not in a few years, maybe not ever. He tells her that she led him on, and made him think there was a future for them. He loves her, he wants them, but he also wants a family one day and he never hid that from her. He says this is the end.

Randolph and Kit are out to dinner talking about the wedding, she gets down on one knee and asks him if he will marry her, he says thank God and pulls out a ring for her.

THE END!
