Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers recap for Tuesday, January 17, reveals that Stephanie Johnson (Abigail Klein) welcomed Tripp Johnson (Lucas Adams) and Joey Johnson (Tanner Stine) home following their flight. Tripp took off to visit Ava Vitali (Tamara Braun) at Bayview, which gave Stephanie a chance to open up to Joey alone.
Joey got updates on Alex Kiriakis (Robert Scott Wilson) shutting off Stephanie’s phone and making it so she couldn’t say goodbye to Kayla Johnson (Mary Beth Evans).
Although Stephanie was upset over Kayla thinking she didn’t take her illness seriously, Joey insisted their mom would never feel that way.
At the pub on Tuesday’s Days episode, Wendy Shin (Victoria Grace) ran into Johnny DiMera (Carson Boatman) and feared he wasn’t taking care of himself since he was so worried about his family.
Johnny also found out about Gabi Hernandez (Camila Banus) blowing up at Wendy, who didn’t think Li Shin (Remington Hoffman) had a shot with her anymore.
Gabi only wanted Stefan DiMera (Brandon Barash), so Wendy assumed Li had lost her forever.
Afterward, Wendy bumped into Tripp outside the pub and admitted the things he’d heard about Li were true.
Tripp couldn’t turn his back on Ava, so he understood why Wendy couldn’t turn her back on Li either.
At the hospital, Gabi found Brady Black (Eric Martsolf) and demanded to see Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall) so she could undo Stefan’s programming.
Brady shut down the idea since Marlena was dying and thought Gabi had lost her mind since this totally wasn’t a priority right now.
Gabi argued that with Dr. Wilhelm Rolf (Richard Wharton) MIA, Marlena might be Stefan’s last hope.
Since Chloe Lane (Nadia Bjorlin) would be available again if Stefan went back to Gabi, that left Gabi thinking this should matter to Brady, too.
Brady stood his ground and explained the situation to Chloe once she arrived.
Chloe checked on Brady in a moment alone, so he hoped that maybe she changed her mind about reuniting.
Although Chloe admitted she hadn’t, she talked about being confused and unsure of what to feel.
Brady planted a big kiss on Chloe, who kissed back before pulling away.
Once Brady apologized, Chloe said what they did wasn’t wrong, but it wasn’t right either. Brady looked distraught as Chloe rushed over to the elevator and took off.
In Li’s hotel suite, he reassured his father over the phone that he wouldn’t go down for what he did and that his position at DiMera would remain secure.
Stefan showed up moments later and punched Li for brainwashing him as well as trying to murder him.
Although Li warned he’d deny it if Stefan told anyone, he said he was sorry and admitted to the programming as well as pulling the plug.
Li acted like it was a case of temporary insanity since he was so driven by his desire to hang onto Gabi.
On Tuesday’s Days show, Stefan insisted Li could make it up to him by helping him find Dr. Rolf, but Li claimed to have no idea where the doc went.
On his way out, Stefan warned Li to clean out his desk at DiMera Enterprises.
Li argued that only EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel) could fire him, but Stefan felt that EJ would be loyal to his family.
Once Li was alone, he used a burner phone to contact Dr. Rolf and admitted he’d been trying to convince Stefan that he had no clue about his location.
In reality, Li had arranged for Dr. Rolf to be moved. If anyone caught up with Dr. Rolf and asked questions, Li warned Rolf to say he never heard of him.
Li also contacted EJ with that burner phone and got reassurance that he wouldn’t be fired – not when Li had the power to expose EJ’s knowledge of Stefan’s brainwashing.
In the town square on Tuesday’s Days episode, Stefan ran into Gabi and confessed that he just came from confronting Li.
Gabi confirmed that Stefan still wanted to undo his programming, but Stefan insisted it wouldn’t change anything when it came to his love for Chloe.
After Stefan heard about Gabi trying to see Marlena, he wondered “what the hell” was wrong with her and thought she was selfish for trying to get help from a dying woman.
Stefan bickered with Gabi and acted like maybe Li did him a favor with the brainwashing after all, but Li rushed over to defend her.
At the DiMera mansion, Steve Johnson (Stephen Nichols) confronted Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk) over Kayla’s death and felt it was time for her to pay.
Kristen urged Steve not to do anything he’d regret, but he ultimately wrapped his hands around her throat and tried to strangle her.
Johnny raced over to stop Steve and urged him to leave, but he told Kristen that he did it for Steve, not her.
Since Steve was the only parent his children had left, Johnny didn’t want him to end up in prison.
Kristen admitted to withholding the orchid knowing that Kayla, Marlena and Kate Roberts Brady (Lauren Koslow) would need boosters.
Although Kristen assured Johnny that she never wanted the women dead, Johnny pointed out it happened anyway.
Back with Steve, he revealed to Joey that the strangling attempt was an act.
It provided a distraction and allowed Steve to plant a bug, which recorded Kristen’s confession about knowingly withholding the lifesaving orchid.
Steve played that confession on a tape recorder for Joey on Tuesday’s DOOL episode and seemed satisfied with what he pulled off.
