NCIS Star Rocky Carroll Hints At Mark Harmon’s Return To CBS Show

Many NCIS fans have missed Mark Harmon in his role as Leroy Gibbs. This is especially so as NCIS gets to celebrate its 20th anniversary this year on CBS. In fact, many cast members on the show have hinted at a return of Gibbs. Would this be possible? Read on to find out.

Will Mark Harmon Return as Leroy Gibbs in NCIS

Speaking of the possibility, showrunner Steven D. Binder said, “I don’t see how we don’t see him one more time at one point.”

Binder added that in his mind, Gibbs has advanced to a higher plane of existence for now. He said he doesn’t want to place him in an apartment in Anchorage or anywhere, adding:

“We left him smiling on a river happy, and that’s the image I want people to have until we’re really ready to blow that out of the water or truly embrace it in some way.”

When did Harmon Leave NCIS?

It was after season 19 of NCIS that Harmon retired from his iconic role, after being with the show since its 2003 inception.

Meanwhile, Rocky Carroll, who plays Leon Vance, also agreed that Gibbs is likely to return at some point. He said the other NCIS characters look up to Gibbs and he serves as a “moral compass,” adding:

“We might see Gibbs again. I think as long as this show stays on the air, there will always be a little bit of a tease that we might see Gibbs again.”

Meanwhile, despite the fact that the Gibbs character has yet to return, Harmon does still play an active role in the police procedural as an executive producer. This means he is never that far away from the action, so to speak.

While NCIS fans were sad to say goodbye to Mark Harmon in his role as Gibbs, Binder has given them some hope.

While at PaleyFest, the showrunner said, “Never count Leroy Jethro Gibbs out. What the future will hold I can’t say, but I wouldn’t count anybody out, dead or alive, on the show.”

Meanwhile, Sean Murray, who plays Special Agent Timothy McGee on NCIS, also spoke of the possibility of Gibbs’ return.

He said that in his role as an executive producer, Harmon does “pop in.” Murray said he is around and it’s “not like he’s packed up and left town or anything.”

Meanwhile, he added that he is not just saying that as a tease, as he truly believes Gibbs could pop up somewhere and he really believes there is a possibility of that happening.
