In tonight’s Station 19 episode, there was an investigation into Cooper’s death. Cooper died during a training exercise. There wasn’t supposed to be any sort of risk involving these exercises and so the Fire Chief was doing her best to get answers on what really happened. They were a few who believed they knew what happened.

Some of the firefighters serving under Captain Beckett believed he was responsible for Cooper’s death. They said if he hadn’t been drinking on the job then no one would have gotten hurt. And they were others like Andy who tried to remain positive.

Andy reminded everyone that Beckett wasn’t the only one who set up the exercise. Cooper had also done some of it. He could just have easily been at fault. But no one really wanted to blame a dead man for his own death.

They also have been watching Beckett for a long time. They knew when he was drinking again. He was definitely back on the bottle. They had hoped that the investigation would at least sink Beckett’s career and get him removed from command only they didn’t have high hopes for that after they saw Beckett with the Internal Affairs guy.

The two seemed very chummy. Beckett was even laughing with the guy. He was at his best with this stranger and it was just his people that saw the other side to him. They saw the real Beckett while they were out on call. Beckett’s hands were shaking.

Theo started to tell the others that he was drunk on the job again. Andy tried to be diplomatic once more. Andy said his hands could be shaking because he quit drinking. She said he could be going through withdrawal and that’s when Maya made her own confession.

Maya admitted she gave a bottle of scotch to Beckett. She said it was during her low point. She wasn’t proud of it, but it happened and she admitted she put a bottle of alcohol right in front of an addict.

She tempted him. She didn’t know if he drank from the bottle or not. She just knew he was drunk again and that it might be her fault. Andy changed her mind about the situation after she heard that. She decided to stop seeing the best in Beckett and she came up with a game plan. She later led the others into mutiny.

They ignored Beckett’s orders. They pretended he didn’t exist while they followed Andy’s command. The fire was at Tomas’s barbershop, and he was a friend of Theo’s. Theo had actually gone back to the old neighborhood to help bring some of the old buildings up to code. Only he had warned Tomas to not overload his extension cords again. Then tonight happened. Theo heard about the fire at the barbershop and he made sure that he was on the truck answering that call. Vic hadn’t thought it was a great idea for him to ride with Beckett. And he told her that he’d be fine.

He was actually ignoring Beckett in the truck when he saw the man’s hands shaking. He warned his friends and that’s when the mutiny plan came together. But because this fire was at the barbershop, Theo knew many of the victims. He and the others did their best to rescue as many as they could and unfortunately they missed one. The man’s name was Jose. Jose was reportedly seen going into the back. The firefighter tried to go through the front and there was too much fire to go that way. They tried going through the back door and there was metal bars blocking the door.

Jose’s wife also showed up at the scene. She demanded that they go in to rescue her husband. Which they were trying to do. It just wasn’t enough for her because she didn’t see anyone entering the building and so she started to make a scene when she managed to encourage the least likeliest hero. She encouraged Beckett. Beckett heard her screams for her husband and he decided he wasn’t going to wait around. He went bursting through the front door in full body gear. He eventually found Jose. He put his own mask on Jose. And he knew that he could die in the fire.

Only he got lucky. The firefighters were finally able to make it past the back door. They found both Beckett and Jose and they rescued them. Both men needed treatment only Sullivan didn’t think Beckett was going to be okay even after he goes to the hospital. He saw the look in Beckett’s eyes. Sullivan has seen that look before. It reminded him of someone who he knew in the military and who killed himself by walking into enemy fire. He told the others that what Beckett did wasn’t to prove himself to them. It was because Beckett has given up.

Beckett has a death wish. They were just getting in the way by rescuing him. But they all got into trouble when they returned to the firehouse. Fire Chief Ross took them to task for what happened on their watch and she said it might cost them all of their jobs. They were now all living in fear of that happening. Maya was once again blaming herself. Andy on the other hand said that they were willing to bet their careers that Beckett was drinking on the job. And Ross was still figuring out what to do with them when Beckett came back.

Beckett checked himself out early. He decided to take a leave of absence while he gets clean and so he handed over his badge to the Fire Chief.

And Vic meanwhile rescued a woman who got trapped in her car after hitting a deer. It was a freak accident and yet she, Diane, and Carina managed to save that woman’s life as well as help her realize she needs a divorce.

THE END!
