In tonight’s Chicago P.D. episode, Detective Hailey Upton visited Petrovic at the rehab. Petrovic was detoxing. She’s an alcoholic. She also doesn’t have anyone else to call and so she called Upton because she needed to speak to someone. Someone outside of group. Petrovic hates sharing with the group.
She felt like everyone hated her. She wanted a normal conversation for once. She called Upton. Upton came to see her and they talked over the course of the next thirty days. Upton showed up everyday. Upton stopped her punishing runs. She was no longer running six miles a day because she wanted to quiet the voices in her head.
It took Petrovic pointing out that the punishing runs was an addiction to get Upton to stop. Upton was now throwing herself into work. It’s the only thing to help her.
She takes on extra shifts. She’s rarely home. She devotes everything to the job. She traded one bad habit for another. Her devotion to work came in handy because they finally caught a lead on their serial killer. There was this woman named Kiki Dunn. She got arrested as an accessory to murder. She honey-trapped a guy so that her boyfriend could kill and rob him.
After Kiki was arrested, she tried to play the innocent victim. She changed gears when that didn’t work. She suddenly said she has information to offer the cops in exchange for her charges going away. Kiki said she knew who the serial killer was. The one they were all looking for. She said he was a cop.
Kiki also knew that his victims had their eyes stapled shut. She knew that he beats the victims with a pipe. She wanted to make a deal and she got released until trial. Kiki was connected to three gangs. She was charged with everything under the sun. The one thing Kiki wants is freedom.
Kiki’s ex-boyfriend tried to kill her to keep her mouth shut about the murder. The police had a hard time tracking her down. They eventually did at a friend’s house.
They told Kiki that they weren’t there to harm her. They wanted to give her whatever deal she desired. Kiki asked for witness protection. She wanted to leave Chicago with a new name. She didn’t want anyone from her past to track her down. Upton had agreed to that deal. She made Kiki so happy. Kiki started saying that she couldn’t believe this guy she knows was right about the serial killer being in his family.
Kiki called her friend John. She was about to give up the name of the serial killer when she got shot. She was shot from the building right next to her friend’s apartment. Upton and the newly returned Petrovic called for backup. They went with Kiki to the hospital. The rest of the squad searched the nearby building for the shooter. They were told not to trust cops. Their killer was a cop. Ruzek ran into a cop. The patrol officer said this was his district and that he came running when he heard about a shooting.
Ruzek wasn’t sure if he could trust this guy. He decided to search the building with him to make sure the guy wouldn’t run. They found where the shooter shot Kiki from. They found shell casings. It wasn’t connected to any cop’s gun. It was just a sidepiece. It could have been bought at any point in time.
Kiki later died from her injuries and so they had no way of knowing who she was talking about. Kiki was arrested several times. She’s met a lot of cops. She also had a lot of male friends. The team looked into everyone.
Upton heard about a friend named Bobby. Bobby was technically one of Kiki’s “Johns”. Upton visited Bobby’s home. She asked him about the serial killer and that’s when he said that his cousin was married to a cop. It’s just that this cop once talked about torture with Bobby. They were at a family gathering.
The guy was drunk. He had heard that Bobby served overseas and he thought he could talk about torture with him. The other guy was looking to show off. He instead put Bobby ill at ease. Bobby told Upton that the serial killer was Frank Matson.
However, Matson wasn’t a cop. He was a lock-keep. They have similar uniforms only the latter weren’t cops. They were merely in charge of locking up people after they were arrested by real cops. Matson probably got tired of playing pretend. He was in charge of locking people in the holding cells.
He gave them their only phone call. He heard them call the one person they knew they could trust. He paid attention to that detail because that’s how he chose his victims. Upton called for a warrant on Matson’s place.
They connected to all the victims. They were going to arrest him when they learned he wasn’t home. He told his wife he was at work. He told work he was at home.
Matson was actually kidnapping Voight. He drugged Voight at the bar. He then followed Voight home. He picked Voight’s locks. He kidnapped Voight and he brought him to a second location where he could torture him freely. And so Voight could die if his squad wasn’t fast enough in finding him.
THE END!
