Fans of CSI: Vegas were seriously upset when CBS canceled the popular show, but it seems there is hope. CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach has revealed that discussion is still ongoing to keep the long-running franchise alive.
CSI: Vegas cancelation isn’t the end?
While CSI: Vegas is over, fans should have hope that the popular franchise isn’t over. The first season of the original series premiered on CBS in 2000, leading to four spinoffs in the last 20 years. Meanwhile, Vegas is the most recent spinoff and will officially end on Sunday, May 19, after running for three seasons, but there is hope.
Deadline quotes CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach speaking of the cancelation of CSI: Vegas and other shows, including NCIS: Hawai’i and So Help Me Todd. Reisenbach admitted they have “had some tough choices this year.” Meanwhile, the network doesn’t plan a S.W.A.T.-style return of the show, she did say discussions are ongoing to keep the CSI franchise going, saying:
I definitely think that franchise is alive and well, and we continue to be in discussions. It’s a part of our legacy.
As the network is currently making decisions over the 2025-26 season by ordering a Fire Country spinoff, Sheriff Country, there can be hope. Moreover, there was a five-year gap between the latest spinoffs in the franchise, CSI: Cyber and CSI-Vegas, which could mean fans may have to wait another five years or more.
What can fans look forward to?
While CBS has said the CSI franchise is reportedly not dead, if a new spinoff comes later down the line, fans could possibly see their favorite stars again. Seeing Max, Folsom and Rejan again in the future is a fan dream.
Hopefully, news of a new CSI spinoff will come soon, but for now fans have to accept that CSI: Vegas is over with the finale airing on May 19. So far, no spoilers are out as to how the episode will end, and the thought there could be a cliffhanger in that final episode would be heartbreaking.
While the series isn’t listed on CBS’s 2024 fall schedule, at least there is plenty to watch. Thanks to Paramount+, shows like CSI: Vegas and others in the franchise are available for bingeing.
