In tonight’s The Good Doctor episode, Dr. Shaun Murphy still believes his son has autism. Steve was a baby. He wasn’t at an age where autism can be ruled either out or in. Shaun’s wife didn’t even want to discuss the topic. She said they’ll get there in time. For now, she wanted to enjoy their son as he is. He was a happy baby.

He rarely cries when they leave him. He gets along with everyone. He was enjoying the new daycare. Lea didn’t want to tempt fate and Shaun was torn with wanting to know now. He was a doctor. He grounds himself in science. He thinks Steve seeing a pediatric neurosurgeon will give them the answers they need.

Shaun was still talking about it when he went into work. Charlie told him that the baby getting tested now could lead to a misdiagnosis. It would be especially disappointing if they hope the baby turns out like Shaun and he ends up being typical. Charlie understood Shaun’s mindset.

She was autistic like him. She knew what an autistic child would mean to him. They also got a pretty cool case. It’s the first time that Shaun has ever seen someone with a third arm. The patient was a kid named Tayo.

Tayo was Nigerian. His parents are Nigerian. They believed his third arm was his little brother. He was a twin and he absorbed him in utero. Tayo also has breathing problems.

One of his arms has to go. His father wanted to take one of his big arms. That way he gets to keep his little brother. Tayo’s mother wanted to take the little arm and leave him with two functioning ones. He would be like all the other kids. Their fighting has gotten to Tayo. He didn’t want his parents to fight over him. He just wants them to be happy.

Shaun tried to solve the dilemma by saying they need a blood test. The blood test will determine which arm to remove. It just won’t heal Tayo warring parents. It didn’t for Shaun’s parents when they were fighting about him. His mom wanted him to get tested for autism. His father refused.

His dad said that Shaun just needed to be disciplined. He thought rules and coming down on him would fix him. It didn’t. It merely made him terrified of his father. Shaun remembered that. He suddenly became so concerned for Steve that he demanded they test their baby.

Lea started getting loud with him. They fought over the need for testing. Shaun’s autism was triggered and he couldn’t bring himself to look at his wife afterwards. He went to work the next morning still trying to give Tayo the best chance.

His big arm has muscle atrophy. Charlie then kickstarted Shaun’s brain by saying if it was possible to trip down the big arm to parts and build back something better. Shaun started thinking. He believed that he can make the little arm into the big arm.

It would be a longer procedure. Shaun went to Tayo’s parents. He told them about the procedure and they started fighting about it. Shaun told them to stop. He said they should let Tayo decide if he wants to do the longer procedure. And he did. He was sad to say goodbye to his little brother only he knew his brother would have understood.

He wanted the surgery. He wanted two big functioning arms. He didn’t want a third arm anymore. It was a first of a kind surgery and they got the idea thanks to Charlie.

The other intern found himself in a tough spot. He accidentally broke his patient’s arm. The patient was Mason. He was a botanist that went into space and it changed his whole world. He came back wanting kids. He wanted to spend more time with his wife. She didn’t want all of that. She liked the way things were.

Plus, Mason has a whole bunch of issues because of space. He has a weakened heart. He needed a defibrillator. He also lost bone density and that’s why Dominick snapped his wrist. It was completely by accident.

All of this plus marriage proposals. Morgan was constantly proposing to Park. The first time she just told him they were getting married. It was needed to make the adoption of their baby go through.

He told her he wouldn’t marry her under those conditions. The second time she proposed she sung to him in front of everyone. She even had a confetti gun go off. Park thought that one was insincere. It didn’t help that she used the song he firmly believed ruined “Moulin Rouge”. Morgan then buys a ring from a pawn shop.

She came up with a complete backstory about her great grandparents to go with the new ring. Park saw right through it. He wasn’t going to marry Morgan until she sincerely proposes to him and she has to make it special. Real special. Not fake special. Park was Mason’s doctor. Mason took a turn for the worst.

He almost died. Park managed to save him and Mason got to wake up to a better world. His wife was willing to think about kids. She said they could start out with a puppy. She was also going to turn down a fellowship and he told her that she doesn’t have to. He’s going with her to Buenos Ares.

Dr Aaron Glassman invited a homeless drug addict in his house. He has her staying on the couch. He started out by giving her surgery to heal her underlying concern and unfortunately she wasn’t ready to get clean.

She overdosed at his place. He had enough Narcan to get her back. And now he wants to give her drugs on a set schedule to help keep her alive – he could risk his license by doing that.

Shaun meanwhile changed his mind about testing Steve. He did what the original Steve would have done. They went out as a family to get ice cream and forget their troubles. And thankfully Tayo’s surgery was a success.

THE END!
