In tonight’s Chicago Med episode, Sharon Goodwin was dating someone. She really likes him. She thought they had a future together. She never met his daughter because she was doing a fellowship in New Zealand, but Alex came back for a surprise visit tonight. She wanted to be there for her father on what would have been his wedding anniversary.

Alex thought her father would be struggling and it turns out he forgot about his anniversary. He also forgot to mention Sharon to Alex. Alex had no idea who this strange woman in her father’s house. Sharon was so happy to see her too.

Sharon hugged Alex because she was finally glad they met. It took her a minute before she realized that Alex had no clue who she was. Alex figured it out after everything Sharon said. She also wasn’t happy with the situation. Whether it was her father for not telling her he was dating or Sharon replacing her mother was anyone’s guess.

Sharon got out of there quick. She returned to work. She tried to prepare for her meeting with the nurse’s union and nothing she did would have prepared her for the hospital stance.

The hospital didn’t want to pay those nurses a dime extra. The cost of living was increasing and these nurses weren’t getting paid to match that increase. There was a nationwide nurse shortage because nurses are walking out. Why shouldn’t they? They weren’t getting paid enough on top of nursing being a very dangerous and demanding job.

The fact that anyone still wants to do it should show their commitment. They shouldn’t have to beg to be rewarded. They knew that too. They went into the meeting with the board knowing that they offer a service that couldn’t be denied.

For some strange reason, the board still wanted to deny it. They didn’t want to pay them more. They didn’t want to offer them a seat on the board or give them any say in the running of the hospital.

They just wanted them to put up and shut up. The one saving grace was supposed to be Sharon. Sharon has never sat on these negotiations before. She was there now and was a former nurse. She promised to try finding a solution. Maggie believed her because they were friends. She trusted Sharon. She convinced the other nurses to trust her as well.

The board asked for more time to work out a deal. The nurses gave them a week. Negotiations were happening behind the scenes and the first thing Sharon wanted was answers. From her boyfriend.

Dennis came to see her. He wanted to explain. He said he was waiting to tell Alex face to face because she takes news better that way. Sharon didn’t think he needed to coddle a thirty-five year old woman only she was willing to acknowledge she doesn’t know Alex well enough to judge. She also accepted that Dennis never intentionally set out to hurt either of them.

Dennis got Sharon to agree to lunch with him and his daughter. There was just one problem. He to do emergency surgery right before the lunch. Sharon and Alex were already at the table.

They got the text at the same time. Luckily, it got them talking. Alex wanted to know about Sharon. Sharon mentioned she was once before. She has three kids. She has a grandchild. She also doesn’t think she’d get married again. She was a day by day sorta person. She also just moved in with Dennis in November.

Alex wasn’t sure if she was ready for commitment. She thinks it going to be a while before she got married or had kids. She knew that would have been a disappointment for her mother.

Dennis told Sharon all about how Nora couldn’t wait to become a grandmother. Sharon realized in an instant why Alex was so hesitant. She doesn’t want the big moments without her mom. Sharon lost her own mom when she was in high school. She was worried that her mom would miss everything and she reassured Alex that Nora will be there for those moments.

Alex will hear Nora when she needs her the most. Alex really liked Sharon for telling her that. She actually liked her as a person overall and so it was Dennis that took issue with something else that Sharon said.

Sharon telling Alex that she wasn’t thinking about marriage had Dennis worried. He thought they were moving in the right direction. He wanted to get married again one day. He wanted a future with Sharon. Which was a lot coming from a guy that didn’t tell Alex about Sharon, but Sharon reassured him and then she thought about it.

Sharon never really thought about it before. She didn’t think she’d get remarried after all the issues with Bert. She might need more time than Dennis to make a decision about their future.

Sharon was so busy with that the board continued to stall. They were hoping to stall long enough that the nurses back down. They knew that the nurses couldn’t afford it if they went on strike. They would have to come back if not cross the line once things got desperate at home. Maggie didn’t notice the tactics at first because this was her first negotiation as a union delegate.

There was so much that happened at the hospital. There was a kid that was abandoned. His name is Max. He thought his mom was a superhero and really she was a drug addict.

She used to leave him with her mom until her mom had to go into a nursing home. She also tried leaving him by himself at the trailer. The neighbors were noticing. The mom finally just abandoned him outright because she wanted to run off and do drugs with the boyfriend all day. The hospital ultimately had to call CPS. Max didn’t want to leave with them. He was kicking up a fuss.

Max was afraid that his mom wouldn’t find him if he left. Dr. Frost tried to be kind to him. He told him that his mom was off on a secret mission and Dr. Charles didn’t think they should feed in the lie that Max’s mother told him. She told him she was a superhero.

She said she had to leave him alone at night because she was off fighting bad guys. Fros thought he was being kind saying what he did. Charles on the other hand knew that Max would struggle with honesty if they didn’t do their best to help him through his loss. And assure him that he will find people who love him even if his mother couldn’t.

Charles spoke with Frost afterwards. Frost finally admitted what Ainsley did to him. She was supposed to protect him and instead she took advantage of him. He couldn’t say no to a sexual relationship with an adult. Not when she protected him from other predators. Charles helped to acknowledge he was sexually assaulted by Ainsley.

Everything became clear the moment he did. He’s never been in a relationship. His friendships were surface level. He trusted someone and she raped him. He finally confronted her about it tonight.

There was an ambulance driver that came in after accidentally hitting a teenage girl. He felt guilty. There was no need to be. His sirens were on and she went skateboarding against the light to begin with.

It didn’t matter. Matt the EMT heard she needed a new liver. He offered to be a living donor. He made the decision without telling his wife. He almost died in surgery. The wife forgave him, but what mattered was that he saved Clarissa’s life. She was doing well now thanks to him.

And the hospital board did turn down the nurses demands. Maggie confronted Sharon. Sharon got upset with her and so Maggie said what happens next is on her.

THE END!
