On tonight’s Chicago Med episode, the hospital couldn’t come to an agreement with the nurses union. They didn’t want to pay them more. They didn’t want to lessen their work hours. They also just didn’t care about them as people. They saw nurses as expendable and so the nurses were fighting back.

They all caught the flu. They couldn’t work with the flu. It was a hospital after all. The nurses pretending to be sick got to go home and that left the doctors short-handed. They relied on the nurses for everything. Maggie basically ran the ED and even she caught this “flu”.

One nurse getting sick was explainable. It was impossible for all of them to be sick. The doctors would have gotten sick too if there had been a contagion at the hospital. The same for the patients. Sharon has been at the hospital a long time because she was once a nurse herself and so she knew what this was.

This was a ploy. The nurses found out that the hospital had already contacted scabs. The scabs were there to cross the picket line and work for the hospital if the nurses tried to hold out for a better deal from the hospital.

The scab nurses were contacted while the hospital claimed they wanted to work with the nurses. Sharon tried to excuse it as them being cautious and really it just showed the nurses that these people never cared about them. Or the work they did. The “traveling nurses” were scabs willing to do anything for a buck.

They wouldn’t care about the doctors. They could ignore patients. They were unfirable and they knew it. The hospital would be too desperate to let them go as they continue to negotiate with the nurses union.

Until the scabs showed up, the doctors were all hands on deck. Dr. Lenox was considering cancelling her weekend get away with the hot surgeon from upstairs. Dr. Charles was helping out in the ED.

There were a bunch of kids that came in feeling sick and really it was hysteria. They ate cake with blue food dye. They weren’t really sick. The parents saw the blue on their lips and panicked. Their panic caused the kids in turn to panic when really they were fine. They just needed a wipe to take off the blue cake dye with a wipe.

Dr. Charles was still down in the ED when an adult patient came in. His name is Frederick only his fiancé calls him Freddie. Freddie’s fiancé also happened to be Charles’s mother. Her name is Margaret Charles. Her son didn’t know she was dating much less that she got engaged. She did all of that without telling anyone.

The doctor has never met this Freddie before. Freddie doesn’t like to walk around with a wallet. He said it ruins the lining of his expensive suits. He doesn’t have to worry about paying for anything or have an insurance card because Margaret was always there to foot the bill.

Margaret looked great. She was still attractive. The problem was that Freddie wasn’t with her for her looks or even her personality. He was in this relationship for the money. Freddie not having a wallet meant Margaret never saw an ID. She thinks his full name is Frederick Lambert. She merely couldn’t prove it was.

Nor did she know if he’s ever been married or if he has kids. She thinks he mentioned he was from New Mexico. She wasn’t sure about it. They didn’t really talk about their pasts.

Freddie remains a stranger to her. Not that she realized it. She thinks they’re in love. She flooded Freddie with gifts. He came in to the hospital after feeling short of breath and he asked Margaret to fetch his Hermes blanket because he was feeling chilly. Charles tried to intervene. He tried to find out information about Freddie.

Margaret put a stop to it. She knew that he suspected Freddie of using her. She didn’t care what he thought because she believed he was still bitter. Margaet never went to Charles’s wedding to Cece.

His mother never came up with an excuse. She didn’t call. She just didn’t show and that might have something to do with the fact that Charles’s first wife was black. Margaret bringing up Cece now just made the psychiatrist see that his mother was the problem. Not Freddie. Margaret pushes everyone around her away.

She did it with her kids as well. She did that with her ex-husband and so Charles brought up how some people have to commit suicide just to get away from her. They were arguing when Freddie took a turn for the worst.

This was happening as Lenox was upstairs. She was practicing to take part in a surgery. It was going to be with her crush. She really likes Dr. Hayes and so some noticed their flirty behavior.

One of them was Naomi Howard. Howard was doing a residency with Hayes. She wanted to be a surgeon and she was so happy when she got the job with him upstairs. Then something happened. Naomi tried to tell Lenox about it a couple of weeks ago. She was forced to say something now because she thought her mentor should be warned.

Naomi was sexually harassed by Dr. Hayes. He made sure to get rid of the other interns so that they could be alone. He pretended he wanted to teach her a new method and he was doing something else with his hands. It didn’t graduate to rape. It was still considered assault. It was also icky because he knew he was her boss.

He could destroy her career if he wanted to and so Naomi didn’t want to report her assault. She told Lenox because she likes her. Only she stopped Lenox from going to the board.

Naomi said she knows what to look out for now. She’ll work around his ploys. She doesn’t want to pursue something she knows might not end in her favor. Naomi chose her career and Lenox doesn’t know what to do. She knew that Naomi was telling the truth because the surgeon did everything with her that he did to Naomi.

The difference being that Lenox liked it. She thought they were going to take their relationship to the next level and now she didn’t know what to do about him being a pervert at work. She just knew that she wasn’t going away with him to Myrtle Beach.

Sharon also got the board to offer nurses real change. It was going to be a five percent bump in pay rise. They also get to seat on the nurses advisory board and have real power now. The board wasn’t happy of course because they intended on firing all the nurses that faked illness, but it was enough to get their nurses back.

Things were so desperate that Sharon herself had to help out in the ED. When the nurses eventually returned to the hospital to work, they all thanked Dr. Archer for treating them to lunch. They didn’t know that Archer had a bet with Dr. Frost. The person that clears the board the fastest got treated to a great lunch.

Archer lost that bet when he prioritized a patient over winning. He gave Frost his credit card and Frost used it to buy lunch for the nurses at their war council. They spent a lot of money.

They were tired of paying for meals. Their new agreement with the hospital also ensures that they now get free lunch from the cafeteria.

The doctors were able to find out what was wrong with Freddie. He has an infection caused by bugs he picked up on vacation. Freddie wasn’t a bad guy all in all. He needed to work on his self-esteem.

He sure liked the money. He also genuinely liked Margaret. She remained strong for him when he sometimes falls apart. And she stopped breathing on tonight’s episode.

It happened before she could make peace with her son.

THE END!
