In tonight’s Grey’s Anatomy episode, there was an explosion at the hospital. It happened in one of the Operating Rooms. The hospital needed to be evacuated. Ben went running in because of course. He’s Ben after all. He wanted to find his wife and the firefighters wouldn’t let him through and so he kept calling Bailey.
The explosion happened because a woman brought an acetylene tank into the operating room. She wanted to force the doctors to save her daughter’s life. It worked. Her daughter was saved. It was the woman’s tank that proved to be a problem. She took it from her husband’s work truck. She thought it was empty. It wasn’t.
It was slowly leaking gas into the operating room. It went off when the surgeon reused the room in another surgery. The interns were alright. They were safe. It was Link that was trapped. He had just gotten married. His first concern was his new bride. Jo had gotten out in time.
She went home and he didn’t want anyone calling her about his condition until he got better. He got trapped under debris. He couldn’t feel one of his arms. There might also be crush injuries that no one was seeing. Link didn’t want anyone worrying Jo because she was pregnant with twins.
Link wanted her to maintain a low blood pressure. It just didn’t stop him from freaking out. Nor were his good intentions enough to stop him from freaking out. Jo heard about the explosion on the news. She naturally race down to the hospital to check on friends and family.
The only one that died outright from the blast was a patient on the operating table. There were two ORs affected. One had Link in it. The other had Jules along with Dr. Monica Beltran. She was still new to the hospital and she too was trapped. It was taking the firefighters longer to get to her OR than it did to Link’s.
With them trapped in the room, it was up to Jules to perform surgery solo. She normally panics and Monica snaps out of her it. She told her they didn’t have time for that tonight.
The patient was running out of anesthesia. They needed to perform the surgery now. Monica talked Jules through her first solo surgery. They were doing so as Link was being moved. The elevators weren’t working. They tried taking him down the stairs. They unfortunately had limited time and couldn’t make a transfer to another hospital. His best bet was to open him up right there in the stairwell.
Link called Jo from Bailey’s cell phone. He asked her to get the kids a dog. A big dog. Scout has been asking for one and Amelia kept saying no. The dog was important because they were going to need it to protect the girls if he’s not around. The call went dead right after he said that.
The doctors were forced to take him to a floor below and do surgery there. Amelia found out about it. She tried to help. All she did was get in the way. Winston removed her from the room before she fell apart and became an issue.
Downstairs, Meredith was helping out. She was outside when the building exploded. She couldn’t get back in because of security and so she opened up Bailey’s clinic to treat everyone outside. This included the new interns. One of them had snuck upstairs before the explosion to get a selfie in the OR for her dad.
She suffered from internal bleeding that happened when a gurney was pushed into her during the blast. Meredith was treating her along with Simone and the new guy. The new intern that Simone slept with during the few hours she was broken up with Lucas.
Lucas was helping Kwan move Nora. Nora woke up during the movement. They had to take out her intubation and she had heard most of their conversation. What she couldn’t figure out was how long was this one hallway. She was still being moved as the doctors were able to save Link’s life.
Ben helped save Link’s life and in doing so he got his job back at the hospital. Link was reunited with his family and there was a second casualty later on. Sadly, Dr. Monica Beltran died from her injuries before the firefighters could reach them.
Jules informed the patient’s family that he was okay. She then fell apart in a supply closet for losing Monica. Monica became a mentor to her in those final moments.
Winston found Jules. He comforted her as best he could. Until she pushed him away. They were once too close and so Jules didn’t want to upset him again. She stormed off. The rest of the hospital dealt with the fallout of what happened. Winston told Amelia that Monica didn’t make it. She started to fall apart and so Meredith called Maggie so that the sisters could be together again.
Lucas finally ran into Simone. She tried to tell him that they shouldn’t have gotten back together. He said they should because he loves her and that’s when she told him she slept with someone else. Lucas walked off rather than say something he regrets. And that meant he never learned that Simone slept with a first year intern.
One that’s going to be working at their hospital from now on.
THE END!
