In tonight’s Law & Order SVU episode, a man claimed he called 911 because of his girlfriend. His girlfriend was snatched in the middle of the night. He believes he might have overheard her being sexually assaulted as well. Her name is Nikki Suarez. She was gone and her boyfriend Greg Morrison was scared for her. Greg was wealthy.

He did some time for securities fraud. Yet, he turned that around to become a motivational speaker. Greg’s whole story about what happened that night seemed off. He claimed Nikki’s abductor spoke like a robot. The abductor also told him that he has cameras and lasers all over the house. And Greg swears he was too scared to do anything.

Not even when he overheard a sexual assault. Greg said he was tied up. He thought that calling out for her or trying to get out of his restraints would lead to this man killing his girlfriend.

His entire story seemed like a plot line. He didn’t seem truthful. The cops felt he was hiding something and he was. He hid the fact that he has another girlfriend named Kelsey James. Kelsey heard he was at the police station. She went down there to check on him. The cops thought she was a returning Nikki at first. They were shocked to find out that Greg was living a double life.

Captain Benson returned early from a conference to talk with Kelsey. She asked Kelsey about Greg. The two have been together for the past year. Kelsey had no clue Nikki existed.

Greg being a motivational speaker showed he was good at telling people what they wanted to hear or at least that’s what the cops thought. They also came to believe that Greg killed Nikki. They figured he probably wanted to hide the relationship from his more serious partner. Greg lawyered up before they could truly get answers.

They tied to check out his story. He said the architect still had keys to his home. They spoke with the architect. He was injured and he spoke to Nikki once. He said that Nikki got scared when he surprised her. She claimed she thought someone was stalking her. She just didn’t report it because she didn’t want to appear paranoid.

She didn’t even tell Greg about this. The architect also mailed back the keys when Greg fired him for not bribing a city official to get permits. He sent the keys with his last bill. Maybe that’s why Greg never opened it.

They looked into Nikki. She didn’t have anyone close. Her roommate was simply a roommate. They weren’t really friends and Nikki spent most of her time with Greg anyways. Greg was old enough to be her father.

Nikki also wears a fitness ring. She wears it all the time. They used the location from that ring to track her to Coney Island where they lost the signal. Though they found Nikki nearby in Brighton Beach. Nikki seemed out of it. Benson was the first at the scene and so she stayed behind with Nikki at the hospital.

It got her in trouble with her boss. Chief Tynan wanted to do a press conference. She essentially demanded that Benson be there as captain and Benson told her that it was an ongoing investigation.

She was first with Nikki. Tynan was left alone to deal with the press. The press was calling this a Gone Girl situation. They didn’t appreciate that the chief had nothing else to say other than this was an ongoing situation. It made Tynan she’d been held out to dry. She was upset and Benson was fending off Greg.

Greg showed up at the hospital to talk to Nikki. Nikki had already been told about Kelsey. She was upset and likely traumatized. It didn’t help that Tynan didn’t rule out the Gone Girl scenario. Nikki was asked about the stalker. She told them about Quentin Welsum. They went on one date. There was nothing there and that was it.

Nikki thought it was over until a few weeks ago when suddenly Quentin began calling her. He called her a low value woman. She wasn’t sure, but she thought she saw him a few times outside of Greg’s place. Its why she was spending so much time there.

Nikki was worried she was being stalked. She never saw her attacker that night because they put duct tape over her eyes. She just knew they assaulted her and they kept calling her the “b” word.

The cops tracked down Quentin. He took two days off of work. He didn’t make any calls. He borrowed a friend’s car during that time and had even asked said friend to claim he was with him the whole time. When the cops were able to arrest Quentin, he said that Nikki arranged the whole thing. He said that Tynan basically admitted as much during the press conference.

Quentin works at an AI company. It could explain how he changed his voice. He has a prior for stalking. He actually broke into another woman’s apartment. They also found a partial print of his on the duct tape in the car he borrowed that night. None of that mattered when the perp hired a big-time defense lawyer.

Benson even took the stand to try and defend her people. It only half way moved the needle. The jury was deadlocked. The judge was forced to declare a mistrial. The people have to take Quentin back to trial another time.

Griff tried to resign and Benson refused to accept it because they all did their jobs.

And Benson’s supervision of her squad was called into question by Tynan. Tynan was considering replacing Benson. She went as far as to tell Benson to remember the chain of command the next time she calls because she might find herself at a desk soon.

THE END!
