Beyond the Gates (BTG) star Tamara Tumie (Anita Dupree) was recently honored to participate in a special event for the Harlem Stage Organization. Read on to find out more about what went down.
An Honor For The BTG Star
On Thursday, Tamara Tunie took to her Instagram and shared a reel of herself making a speech. She looked gorgeous in her white and gold outfit as she stood by the lectern. Harlem Stage, if you don’t know, was established to allow for the creative talent of persons of color to emerge into the arts.
In her caption, Tamara said, “I had the honor of opening the evening festivities for the 2025 GALA of my beloved @harlemstage! What an amazing night!!” The actress, director, and producer spoke in her reel, saying, “We will not waver.” And the crowd cheered and chanted along with her.
The real-life Anita Dupree talked about “vision” and the great “future” for those who learn their craft and are supported by Harlen Stage. “Our future has never been brighter,” she reiterated. Additionally, she reminded her audience what an “honor” it was for her to address them.

As The World Turns on CBS cemented her reputation, but she soon became known for other roles on Chicago Hope, Sex and the City, and a long list of movies. They included Bloodhound of Broadway and The Devil’s Advocate.

The first film that she directed, See You In September, was a romantic comedy that premiered in 2010. It didn’t get fantastic ratings, and some folks thought Whoopi Goldberg could have been used a bit more in it, However, it led to bigger things. She’s been seen on Netflix and briefly in Better Call Saul.
