On tonight’s 9-1-1 episode, the 118 was dropping off a critical patient at the hospital. They were still there when Athena came in. She survived the initial gun wound and spent the rest of the episode fighting for her life.

Detective Ben Hooks wanted to finish what he started. He wanted to kill her. She got close enough to the truth that he couldn’t afford to let her live. Athena found out he was in the pocket of a Russian oligarch named Nikolay Caster.

Caster was a dangerous man. He was also unarmed when Hooks practically executed him. He thought by killing Caster that no one could testify against him. And he forgot about Caster’s son.

The son survived the raid. He had been the one to convince his father about Hooks. He told his father that a dead cop would bring too much heat. He instead left it to Hooks to make the case go away.

Only Hooks betrayed them all. He’s been on their payroll for the last six years. There was bound to be a paper trail. Athena would’ve found it so he tried to kill her.

He tried the first time during the raid. He then had an angry Caster Jr. up in his face afterwards and so his second attempt on Athena’s life was when he convinced the son that she was behind the raid in the first place.

He handed over Athena’s file. Not the one she collected by talking to witnesses. She was slowly building a case and it was taking its time. She would never have rushed a raid without all of her evidence.

It had been Hooks’s idea to raid that house. He denied it when speaking to the son. He showed Athena’s work and her history in that file he handed over.

She took on a serial killer for one. She survived multiple bad guys and was still kicking. She was more than a mere traffic cop that Hooks tried to paint her when he initially spoke to Caster.

The son didn’t pick up on that. He was hurting too much to pay attention. He gave Hooks a beating because he said two dead cops would be too much. He then went after Athena personally.

He sought out her loved ones in the hospital’s waiting room. He found one that was by himself. It unfortunately turned out to be Eddie. Eddie got stabbed. The son wanted to know Athena’s condition. He had purposely run into Eddie in the hospital chapel and Eddie made the mistake of saying his friend was recovering.

Little Caster wanted revenge for his father. He didn’t hand this one over to the underlings. He took over. He went to the hospital. He stabbed Eddie. He pretended to be a flower delivery from the Chief of Police. When that didn’t work, he pulled out his gun. He was threatening the nurse to open the door to the ICU for him when a father stumbled across them. Ford’s daughter was riding her bike when she got hit by a car. He and his wife were in the waiting room hoping she made it through surgery. Ford shouted “he’s got a gun” and what they got him was a bullet in the chest.

The kid stole the nurse’s badge. He made it passed the controlled doors. She set off the hospital lockdown. She wanted to preserve lives, but he had already made it past the secured doors. It meant her actions didn’t really help in end. It just made sure that the 118 couldn’t follow behind the shooter or try to stop him. They heard from the nurse that he was looking for Athena. Athena had been moved to a room following surgery. She was in a medically induced coma. May and Ravi were with her.

Harry had been up on the roof talking through his issues with a kind listening ear – Buck. Together they found out about the lockdown. They flipped the switch to the hospital. They made sure that the doors were released. It allowed them to search for Athena. May and Ravi have been moving her around only they couldn’t do so for long without having to stop to plug in Athena’s ventilator.

Harry showing up when he did thanks to opening those doors was a godsend. He knocked out the shooter. He grabbed the gun. He had the upper hand until Buck returned escorting SWAT.

SWAT arrested the younger Caster. Only the danger wasn’t over. Hooks found out about the arrest and he wanted to finish what he started. He later went to the hospital. He waved the cop at Athena’s door away. Athena herself had to stop him from injecting her with a neurotoxin. She woke from her coma and she told her boss everything she knew. This included that Caster was unarmed when killed. She also mentioned that Hooks then tried to kill her. Her boss at the LAPD believed her because the story that Hooks was selling about what happened hadn’t made sense.

They knew that Hooks would try again. They waited for him. They moved in once Athena gave the all clear. Hooks was arrested for attempted murder and he was looking at murder charges on top of it. His time in prison won’t be fun, but at least he’ll run into the son again. SWAT clearing the building meant that the elevators began working again.

They later found Eddie bleeding out in that elevator. He rushed into treatment and he too was saved. He was fine enough to later be told that most of the migrants were granted asylum.

It wouldn’t have helped Esteban. The government was hesitant about letting an adult man stay than they were over women and children. So, Eddie found a way around that. He got Esteban a job with his family in Texas. It gave him a visa to stay and go to school. He’ll be staying with Eddie’s family in the meantime.

Buck also applied to be an emergency foster parent to Theo. Theo’s parents had died. They couldn’t reach his other relatives and so him staying with Buck will be the best fit. It grants him some place safe. And with someone who understands him.

THE END!
