In tonight’s Chicago Fire episode, Isaiah’s mother emerged from her coma. Shauna still has months ahead in terms of recovery. Only her doctors felt her pacing was promising. This was good news for Isaiah as well. He misses his mom. He’s been happy with Severide and Kidd, but he has a good mother waiting for him.

He was a lot better off than some of the kids still in care. There were plenty of children that will age out of the system before they found a safe home. The couple had been focused on adopting a baby before Isaiah came into their lives and now that they see they can handle older children then maybe they’ll be more open-minded when it comes to adoption.

During a call, Vasquez had an accident. They cut the power to the car. They thought it was safe to enter and help the passenger trapped inside when suddenly the airbag deploys.

It knocked Vasquez out. He wasn’t down for long. He was back up on his feet ready to help in spite of a possible concussion. Kidd ordered that Violet check him out first. They helped the passenger while she was doing that. Vasquez later felt oddly about the accident. He knows more a little something about cars. He said that particular car should never have deployed the airbag once the juice was cut.

He was trying to convince Kidd of his theory when she got called away. Kidd found out that Mouch was being decommissioned. They were losing an engine on top of everyone that rode it.

It was making the city less safe. It also wasn’t fair to push out a man that just got promoted less than a year ago. He was ageist to believe he should just retire. Mouch loves his job. He loves helping people. He wants to keep the city safe and he was getting kicked out because City Hall wanted to look like they were doing everything while they handle the financial crisis.

It sucked. Which was why Chief Pascal wanted to put a face to the pain. He asked Mouch to get in front of cameras. He wanted Kidd talking to the media too.

They needed the city to know that crucial services were getting cut and the decisions behind it weren’t coming from within their department. It was coming from people who were ignoring the danger. Kidd never got a chance to finish the report. She got some bad news on the Isaiah front. Isaiah’s mother wants him to move to Cleveland full-time to be nearby while she recovers.

Shauna has a friend that knew Isaiah as a kid. The friend agreed to move to Cleveland and take over Isaiah’s care until Shauna was back on her feet. Only Kidd was worried about Isaiah.

His life is in Chicago. His school, his friends, and everything he knows is in Chicago. Kidd didn’t think that uprooting him was the best thing for him and yet her hands were tied. She wasn’t Isaiah’s mother. She doesn’t have rights to decide anything for him when he does have a mom. A mom whose awake now.

Kidd spoke with Isaiah’s caseworker about their chances of fighting this. The odds weren’t in their favor. It also wasn’t helpful that Severide was still consumed by the arson case that landed his friend in the hospital.

He knew that Kevin Moore tried to kill his teenager’s high school principal. He just didn’t know how to prove it until he studied the second fire. The second fire was started with an accelerant. The accelerant was a mixture of two chemicals that made up something they called a slurry.

The same mixture was used on another fire connected to Kevin Moore. The other occurrence was his ex-girlfriend’s house. She was caught in the fire and she suffered brains on her body.

The cops had Gina the ex-girlfriend talk to Sheila the ex-wife. Sheila was Kevin’s alibi. Or she was until she revealed he threatened her into lying for him. Her testimony changed things. They got a warrant for Kevin’s phone. They’ll find out he’s connected to the principal hate group. They’ll learn he made threats and that he has a history of following through on them.

Severide caught Kevin dead to rights. Only he lost Isaiah. Isaiah met his mom’s friend with Kidd at his side. Kidd noticed how at ease Isaiah was around her and that reassured her that him moving to Cleveland was the best thing for him. Severide was upset at first that the decision was made without him only Kidd reminded him that he had the chance to be there.

He just never took it because he was too focused on a case he wasn’t supposed to be investigating. It wrapped up in time for him to say goodbye to Isaiah. Just not much else.

The apartment felt a little empty without Isaiah in it. Severide went to the hospital. He stayed by Van Meter’s side. He left Kidd alone again. She had to deal with an apartment all by herself.

Vasquez meanwhile learned that faulty airbags were put into the car. He spoke with the person who put it in and ordered a recall. As well as the name of the supplier. He also had a moment with Violet that could lead to something more.

But Mouch’s job was safeguarded. It just came at a cost. Mouch was being permanently transferred to a different firehouse. They got his story in the news and it made an enemy at City Hall. The claws were out for them now.

THE END!
