In tonight’s Chicago Med episode, after the hospital lost power, it was bit chaotic. Dr. Lenox left the hospital. She went to go check on an abused wife and getting involved with the Carters again did not help her. Lenox first met the couple months ago. Devin and Faye seemed like the perfect couple. They were in a car accident.
Faye was a lot more banged up than her husband. Lenox didn’t think anything of it until Faye nearly used their emergency protocol. She was given a cup to pee in and she put a sticker on the bottom of it. There are signs around the hospital for abused spouses or children to put a sticker at the bottom of the cup if they weren’t safe. Faye did so.
Then Faye regretted what she did. She threw away the cup before she could use it. She got another cup and she didn’t add the sticker that time. Only her original cup was spotted in the trash. It was shown to her doctor at the time who was Dr. Lenox. Lenox tried to talk her into making an official report.
She got the husband out of the room. She reassured Faye that she was safe and that she could protect her. It just hadn’t been enough. Faye chose to go home afterwards with her husband. She continued with his story that her injuries were merely caused by the car accident.
Until Devin came back to the hospital on his own. He was drunk and disorientated. He was covered in blood that wasn’t his. He later claimed that he got into a bar fight when he came to. Lenox knew he was lying and so she found his address. She went there on her own.
She had Dr. Ripley keep an eye on Devin while she tried to find Faye. Faye was her chief concern. Lenox knew it would be bad when she found her. She simply didn’t account for finding Faye at the bottom of her basement stairs. The woman’s husband had severely beaten her up.
It wasn’t long after Lenox found her that the lights went out at the hospital. Ripley lost sight of Devin. The drunk and volatile man returned home to find Lenox in his house. So, he hit her.
It had looked like he knocked her out because fast-forward a few hours and someone was dead. It wasn’t Lenox. Lenox was talking to the cops after the incident and they were questioning why she hadn’t called the authorities sooner. They told her that if she had that someone might still be alive. And Lenox appeared to genuinely considered that possibility.
Lenox was recounting the story to the cops while mere flashbacks showed what happened. Lenox was knocked out. She came to tied up in the basement. She was alive. Faye was alive.
Devin was freaking out and Faye was in bad shape. She broke her ankle. She couldn’t stand on it. She still convinced Devin to go on the run with her to Canada. She didn’t want him hurting Lenox to cover up what he did. Lenox bandaged her leg with duct tape. It was enough until they heard someone else break into the house.
Devin went to go check it out. When he came back, it was with Dr. Ripley as his new hostage. Ripley knew what Lenox had done and he began to worry when he didn’t hear back from her.
But him showing him didn’t help Devin. It made Devin question how many people knew they were there. Devin began to unravel and Faye’s punctured lung from the fall down the stairs didn’t help. Lenox and Ripley were freed to work on her. They MacGyver their way into releasing the pressure. Faye began to breathe again. She woke up to see that Devin was still drinking.
Things weren’t great back at the hospital either. Drs. Archer and Kingston performed surgery on Jeremy Lockhart. They lost power after they had already opened him up and so they continued ahead with the surgery. It would’ve been too risky to transfer him upstairs while his chest was still open. They finished the surgery by feel.
It was supposed to buying a dying man a few more weeks. He wanted to live long enough to see his only child be born. They prepared his wife for either him surviving a few extra weeks or dying on the table. She was instead given a husband in a coma.
Jeremy was alive. They just weren’t sure if he’ll ever wake up. His prognosis looks good. Then again he was already dying and so it really was about a few extra weeks. Not that the hospital cared
. They were worried about liability. They didn’t think the doctors should’ve gone ahead with such a risky surgery on someone that was dying. They also were worried about being sued. Jeremy’s wife didn’t go there. Her concern was what to do now because if Jeremy stopped breathing on his own then she had to make a choice on whether or not to end his life.
Dr. Charles also had a tough case. There was a woman on the transplant list. There was a heart available for her and they tried calling her to tell her that. She didn’t receive that call because unfortunately she tried to take her own life. She’s been on the donor list for five years. She’s been sick for twice as long. She needed that heart.
It was her depression from not receiving one that pushed her over the edge and now she couldn’t get the one that came available because of her suicide attempt.
It was a cruelty that Charles struggled to make sense of even in his own therapy appointment. He suffered a panic attack. His first since med school. There was just so much that happened that night.
This included someone shooting and killing Devin. Lenox had escaped her restraints. She fought Devin. She got his gun away from him. She knocked him out. They tied him up with zip-ties. She was calling for an ambulance for Faye when gunshots went off. Lenox claimed that while she away – Devin escaped from the zip-ties. He tried to attack Ripley and Faye killed him in self-defense.
The cops thought she was lying. The detective on the case suspected that Lenox had killed Devin in cold blood. He threw back into her face that she was former Special Forces and the first thing they teach him was how to secure a weapon. He thought she killed Devin while he was tied up.
He said this to her first and so she clapped back with let’s see what the jury will believe. She ultimately wasn’t charged and neither was Ripley. The truth was that Devin did wake up. He tried to get Faye to help him because she did reach the gun. She chose to shoot him over Ripley.
The doctors then covered for her and they got away with it because no one was charged.
Back at the hospital, Jeremy woke up. He was fully alert and he was going to get those extra weeks to see his baby be born. This bit of good news helped give Archer an idea. He found out the sex of the baby he was expecting with Dr. Asher. He gave her the envelope with it. And it helped her because she’s been suffering from nightmares of dying in childbirth like her own mother did.
They were having a baby girl and history will not repeat itself.
THE END!
