General Hospital (GH) spoilers hint that anyone hoping Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) and Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) might reunite romantically may want to let that dream go.
GH writers seemingly nixed the possibility of Jason and Carly becoming more than friends again when he returns to Port Charles.
In the May 20 episode, Carly clashed with Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) about his desire to race off to help Anna Devane (Finola Hughes).
Valentin defended himself and suggested that if Carly could help Jason, nothing could stop her.
Carly acknowledged that was true, but she also pointed out that her situation with Jason was different.
Carly felt that she could approach things with Jason clearly and rationally for one crucial reason.
“I love Jason, but I’m not in love with him,” Carly insisted.
Since some viewers aren’t on board with Jason and Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) as a couple, that’s led to suggestions on social media about who he should be paired with next.
However, we should perhaps take Carly out of the running when it comes to Jason and his romantic options.
Of course, that’s good news as far as many fans are concerned!
Some might argue it was a mistake for Carly and Jason to cross that romantic line back when amnesiac Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) was off living as “Mike” in Nixon Falls.
Jason and Carly had a wedding for the sake of the mob business, but they also developed real feelings that went beyond friendship.
Fortunately, the show pulled back on that and has kept Carly in the friend zone with Jason ever since.
Plenty of viewers would agree that’s where Jason and Carly belong after so many years of being deeply devoted pals.
Carly and Jason will always have a strong bond, but they arguably don’t work as a romantic duo.
It’s good to know that Carly doesn’t view Jason as anything more than her BFF at this point.
Jason and Carly have a friendship that’s too special to wreck with messy romantic drama, so let’s hope they don’t cross over into romantic territory ever again.
Naturally, that doesn’t mean Carly is destined to end up with Valentin or that Jason is destined to end up with Britt!
There could be some romantic twists and turns in store for all characters involved as the action heats up.
