General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that fans have been weighing in following the show’s decision to ditch mob storylines.
Jason Morgan’s (Steve Burton) choice to leave the mob was followed by Sonny Corinthos’ (Maurice Benard) announcement that he’s leaving it behind, too.
Some viewers consider this a welcome change and are eager to see Sonny as well as Jason tackle something new.
Others have voiced concerns about the show becoming boring without that classic mob element that GH relied on for so many years.
In response to one negative fan on X (formerly known as Twitter), Maurice Benard defended the writing shift and assured everyone that Sonny’s future is still bright.
The same goes for Jason, so there’s no need to worry from Benard’s perspective.
“There’s nothing wrong with doing another profession or change as long as both characters still have power And that is the plan I can tell you right now what they have planned in the future is absolutely beautiful,” Benard promised.
A different viewer chimed in with some positive words and expressed hope that Sonny’s pairing with Justine Turner (Nazneen Contractor) would still be part of that plan.
Let’s look at what Benard had to say about that.
“I just had some fun great scenes with her later,” Benard revealed.
With all this in mind, Maurice Benard just offered up three story hints.
The first one is that both Jason and Sonny will still have power moving forward, so that’s certainly nice to hear.
Just because Sonny and Jason are getting out of the mob doesn’t mean they’ll become weaklings who get cast aside.
Jason and Sonny will still play important roles on the show following their mob departures, which brings us to Benard’s hint about what’s next being “absolutely beautiful.”
Since Benard clearly approves, it sounds like Sonny and Jason are going to win big in their new career paths while making their families the priority.
That could definitely be a beautiful thing for Jason and Sonny after all they’ve put their loved ones through over the years.
Finally, Benard suggested that Sonny and Justine’s pairing will continue, so that still seems to be his character’s romantic plan for now.
Sonny’s mob exit could perhaps pave the way for him to have a real relationship with Justine depending on how things play out.
