In tonight’s The Rookie episode, Sergeant Lucy Chen was a little sad about leaving her old apartment. She was glad about moving in with her boyfriend. She was happy about taking that big step but leaving her old life behind was hard. She first lived in that apartment with Jackson. Then Tamara. Then Celina.

She’s always been the one to stay. She was now the one to go. Miles was taking over her old room. She let him keep the bed because he technically didn’t have one. He was living in a car in a parking lot up until then. And so everyone was getting a chance to be happy now.

Even Lucy’s boyfriend was taking on a brand new task. Tim was becoming the new Watch Commander. He was taking over from Segreant Grey whose gone to work on a joint task force with the FBI.

Tim was a lot more gruff with the squad. He also volunteered two detectives without asking. Neither Angela nor Nyla were happy about suddenly getting put on a task force with the Secret Service. They still had to do it because it was an order. The president was visiting LA. It was up to them to work with the Secret Service Advance Team to weed out any possible threats.

The detectives weren’t even given the respect of working the top of the list of suspects. They had to start at twenty and under. The Secret Service practically said they will handle everyone deemed far more dangerous.

Only the men in suits underestimated Jerry Hudson. The detectives were sent to check in on him and they found suspicious activity at his house. They were forced to enter. They found he had a bunch of guns with one missing. The one missing was marked as the sniper rifle. They knew because he had everything labeled.

He had a problem with spelling, but indeed everything from labeled. It was all put away in the correct spot. He arranged everything perfectly and orderly. It told them a lot about him. It also stated he was dangerous.

The cops informed the Secret Service. They all began to look into Hudson. They was a city-wide alert for him. They were quickly informed that he was spotted at St. Stephen’s hospital. He had a head injury. Which he ignored to fight off the doctors and escape before the police could get there.

Hudson wasn’t armed at the hospital. His next play had to get his weapon back once he realized he couldn’t go home. His car was taken to an impound lot. Nolan and his new rookie went there to head him off. Miles thought they’d beat him there because it was a half a mile from the hospital.

Hudson was on foot with a head wound. Only he appeared to be motivated because he managed to get to his car first. He grabbed his gun. He fired at police. He escaped in the in a tow truck. He slightly injured Miles and thankfully it wasn’t too bad because he had to go back to work.

Secret Service Agent Kevin Kelvin was stationed within LAPD. He and Celina had a lot in common. They both believed in new age spirituality. He was a Cancer.

She was an Ares. There was just one issue. Kelvin believed he was the reincarnated Abraham Lincoln. It was a step too far for Celina. Celina remembered her past lives and she wasn’t famous in any of them. She said people who believed they were famous in a past life were doing so out of ego. Not true belief. They all couldn’t be Cleopatra.

Kelvin’s claims made sense for why he became Secret Service. It also told Celina that his head was too big. Celina was telling Miles about it when Miles got in trouble. Miles was supposed to recruit a Criminal informant. His TO didn’t want him to ignore his probie checklist just because the president was coming to town.

So, Miles recruited someone named Fast Andy. Nolan tried to tell him that he wasn’t smart and Miles said he got this. He did this back in Texas as well. What he failed to grasp was how dumb Fast Andy was.

Miles promises assistance while offering nothing. He said he’d be a good friend to him. Fast Andy took it to mean he could check on Fast Andy’s ex-girlfriend and see if she was available or cancel if she got fat since the breakup. He then kept sending Miles memes all day long. Later, Fast Andy tried to rob a dispensary.

He got caught and was in a standoff with the cops. He told them he had immunity because Officer Miles Penn told him so. Miles got a call from his TO about it. He then called Fast Andy. He convinced him to turn himself in. And now they’re all in trouble.

Fast Andy was facing prison time. Miles was taken to task for recruiting an inept CI. Even Nolan got yelled at because he knew Fast Andy wouldn’t make a good informant and he didn’t shut it down.

He instead tried to turn it into a teachable moment. Now, their jobs were at risk. They still had to deal with the motorcade and the missing Hudson. Hudson has a list of targets. People he felt betrayed him. The list included the president. It also included his ex-girlfriend. The cops got to him before he could hurt anyone. And they stopped him.

Miles and Nolan were heroes. Celina also cracked a joke about being John Wilkes Boothe to Kelvin. The joke did not go down well. Kelvin thought she was mocking him. It was the end of their newfound friendship.

The president’s visit happened without a hitch. The Secret Service left. Things were returning to normal back at the station. Miles told Nolan he needed drill sergeant TO. But Nolan told him that it was Miles’s task to match Nolan’s energy and something was going to be drill sergeant. And other times it was giving him room to make mistakes now when they didn’t matter as much.

Lucy went home with Tim after spending two days locked in with the Secret Service. She never got around to unpacking while Angela decided to drop her idea of quitting her job. She likes being a cop. She couldn’t be a lady of leisure. She might go insane if she did.

THE END!
