The Young and the Restless spoilers reveal that the show has officially replaced Josh Griffith in the head writing role.
Fans have been anxiously waiting this announcement ever since the news came out about Griffith departing the head writer position, but now it’s finally here.
Multiple sources confirm that Jamey Giddens and Dan O’Connor have been selected as Josh Griffith’s replacement duo.
That means Y&R is getting a co-head writing team instead of just one scribe at the helm, so let’s hope two heads are better than one in this case.
At this point, most viewers are just eager to see a change!
Josh Griffith’s work has drawn plenty of criticism, but now O’Connor and Giddens will have a chance to deliver some fresh material.
If those names sound familiar, it’s not surprising. Jamey Giddens has been working as a writer on Beyond the Gates, but he was also part of the writing team on Days of Our Lives and Days of Our Lives: Beyond Salem in the past.
Plus, Giddens was the co-creator of Ambitions on OWN and the co-founder of Daytime Confidential before he began focusing on TV writing.
In other words, Giddens is definitely someone who knows soaps, so viewers will be curious to see what stories he comes up with.
Of course, we should also talk about Dan O’Connor since he’s the other half of this co-head writing duo.
O’Connor started out his soap writing career as a writers’ associate on One Life to Life before heading over to General Hospital, where he took on various roles over the years.
That included a lengthy stint as the show’s co-head writer.
Now O’Connor will be bringing his talents to Y&R along with Giddens.
After Griffith’s exit announcement came as June wrapped up, the show quickly began the hunt for his replacement and named this new duo just over a month later.
Jamey Giddens and Dan O’Connor will start work during the week of August 3-7, so the cast and crew have already been informed of this huge shift behind the scenes.
There’s no word yet on when O’Connor and Gidden’s first episode will hit the air, but we’ll be sure to pass along more info as it comes in.
