It was announced today that Shakira would be leaving the Voice after just one season of serving as a judge on the reality singing competition. However, NBC has already announced that Christina Aguilera will be replacing her for the fifth season.
Aguilera and Cee Lo Green both left the show at the end of the third season to pursue their own musical endeavors. It looks like that didn’t exactly turn out as Aguilera had planned, since she’s already returning to the show after just one year. Then again, why would you turn down a multi-million dollar paycheck when you have nothing else going on?
USA Today reports that Cee Lo is also thinking of making a return to the Voice. This means that in addition to Shakira, another member of the Voice’s judging panel could be taking a leave. Could this mean the departure of long-time judge Adam Levine? Or will it be Usher or Blake Shelton? It would be hard to imagine Levine leaving the show, but then again, the Voice has arguably helped his brand more than it has anyone else’s. At this point, if he leaves, he could probably do anything that he wanted to do and have it be a success. It’s hard to turn down that kind of opportunity. However, I can’t imagine that the producers of the show would want to lose Levine, so they’ve probably tied him to a contract or negotiated it so that he won’t be able to leave even if he wants to.
Are you happy that Christina Aguilera will be replacing Shakira? After all, Shakira’s a busy mom and working singer, and she has a lot going on outside of the Voice. Her opportunities at this point are a lot bigger, especially on a global scale, than Aguilera’s are. Let us know what you think in the comments.
