Game Of Thrones RECAP 6/2/13: Season 3 Episode 9 “The Rains of Castamere”

If you are like me, you have been anxiously awaiting the new episode of GAME OF THRONES.  Last week the show took a break for Memorial Day but tonight our favorite show GoT continues with a new episode called, “The Rains of Castamere.”   This is the last episode before the finale next week, the show has certainly been speeding along.  On tonight’s episode Robb (Richard Madden) presents himself to Walder Frey (David Bradley), and Edmure (Tobias Menzies) meets his bride.  The Freys are not such a happy bunch since Robb decided not to marry Walder’s daughter.  Did you watch the last episode before the break?  We did and we recapped it here for you.

On the show prior to the break King’s Landing hosted a wedding for Tyrion and Sansa.   Tywin Lannister reminded his son, Tyrion that it was his job to put a baby in Sansa.  Tyrion and Sansa spent the night together after their wedding, Tyrion decided not to sleep with Sansa until she wanted him too.  Daenerys met the Titan’s Bastard and the Second Sons captains and the titan threatened Daenerys.  The Second Sons plotted to kill Daenerys but one of the members Daario decided he did want to kill her and killed the other captains instead.  Daario pledged his allegiance to Daenerys.

On tonight’s show called The Rains of Castamere, the title of the episode is the unofficial “anthem” of House of Lannister and Tywin Lannister, which refers to the destruction of House Reyne of Castamere after their rebellion.  Robb heads to the Freys.  Robb feels the marriage, between Edmure Tully and Walder’s daughter Roslin Frey, is an invitation which he cannot decline after already giving slight to his allies the Freys once.  So Robb heads to The Twins with his mother, uncle and a his banner men to meet Roslin Frey.

Jon (Kit Harington) faces his harshest test yet. Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright) discovers a new gift. Daario (Ed Skrein) and Jorah (Iain Glen) debate how to take Yunkai. House Frey joins with House Tully.

We will be live blogging the episode at 9PM EST . . . so make sure to come back to this spot and watch the show with us.   Make sure to refresh often so you get the most current info!  While you wait for the episode you can catch a sneak peek of tonight’s episode BELOW!

Recap starts now!

The show opens with Lady Stark chatting Robb, planning strategy to overthrow Lord Tywin and take the castle. Lady Stark says, “Show them how it feels to lose the ones they love.”

There’s a procession of House Stark bannermen and they visit Walder Frey’s castle — filled with ladies that Robb had, at one time, promised to marry. But he tells them he fell in love with another. Robb gives a long winded speech, hoping to win back Walder Frey’s allegiance. He’s somewhat successful, and he ultimately offers them food, shelter, etc. Seems a little too easy?

We jump to a scene with Daenerys, who’s also plotting. She, with the help of her team, attempts to develop a plan to overthrow the Yunkai.

Samwell, his new lover, and her child are stomping through the snow. He tells her stories about the beginning of things. She’s amazed that he can read, that he can stare at marks on a page and learn new things. They come to the base of the wall, and she tells him that she was told no wildling has ever lived to see the wall.

The Hound and Arya continue their journey, and they come upon a peddler with a damaged cart. Hound punches the traveler out. He’s about to kill this man when Arya interrupts. He obliges.

Bran Stark travels with his band and they take shelter because there’s a storm-a-comin’.

Jon Snow, Ygritte, and the wildings are considering stealing some horses from a nearby breeder. The breeder gets away and Ygritte’s about to kill him when Jon Snow says, NO! She listens to him.

Arya and the Hound have a conversation behind the cart as the Hound eats a pig foot. They have a conversation about fear. The Hound says she’s afraid that she won’t get to where she wants to go, that she won’t make it to her family. Arya says she’s not afraid, but he says, “I know what fear looks like.” Arya counters with, “You’re afraid of fire.” She tells him, before walking away, “Someday, I’m going to put a sword through your eye and out through the back of your skull.”

While taking shelter in a tall tower, Bran asks how they’re going to get past the wall. Soon, the wildlings arrive on their horses. Jon Snow is there as well. And I just want to witness an adorable reunion between those two brothers. They ask Jon Snow to kill the horse breeder, but he can’t do it. Ygritte kills him instead and, soon, the band of wildings turns on Jon. They have a skirmish. Many die. Jon gets away by horse, leaving Ygritte behind.

Daenarys’s army makes their first move on the Yunkai.

Edmure Tully gets married.

Bran finally learns that he can see through the eyes of other things — even humans. They continues to talk about how they’re going to get beyond the wall. Bran says goodbye to his brother, as he will not be journeying to the wall.

They manage to take down the Yunkai, they surrender, and the city is now Daenerys’s.

We return back to the wedding ceremony and Edmure and his bride prepare for the bedding ceremony. Robb’s wife says she’s pregnant; if it’s a boy, they will name it Eddard.

The Hound and Arya roll up to the castle, but the guard won’t let them through. Arya runs away.

The Frey’s army attacks everyone in the banquet hall. Robb is shot with an arrow and his wife is stabbed several times. Lady Stark has been hit, but she manages to crawl beneath a table. Robb crawls to his wife, bloody and dying. Lady Stark crawls out from the table, grabs Walder’s wife, and puts a knife to her throat. She begs him to let Robb go. Walder says, who cares. Robb is stabbed and Lady Stark is killed as well.

Um, okay, so that happened. Stay tuned for next week and let us know what you thought!
