Jennifer Aniston continues to put her foot in her mouth while promoting We’re the Millers. Reading her latest interview with Jason Sudeikis in Glamour Magazine is an exercise in patience because I could barely get through it, imagining these two smug celebrities talk about how tough their life is. Boo freaking hoo.
Basically, the topic turns to past relationships and how it can affect one’s life in a very negative way, and then Jennifer says, “You can undo a lot of things [when you get older]… If you’re not happy, you can become happy. Happiness is a choice. That’s the thing I really feel. Like with friends who refuse to get happy, who refuse to rise above the discomfort of where they’re at.”
I get what she’s saying, but she shouldn’t act like happiness is a choice for everyone. What about the people who are starving, who see their families and siblings killed in war zones, the people who don’t have a cent to their name? Is it a CHOICE for them? I just don’t understand how she can generalize when she’s making these kinds of statements. You know, there are people who are legitimately depressed. They can’t just make a ‘choice’ be happy again. Damn celebrities. What she should have said instead is, ‘Happiness is a choice – FOR people with millions of dollars who can afford to not worry about the mundane things like paying bills, paying for their kids’ education, paying for food, etc. etc. etc.’
Do you guys think I’m overreacting or did the comment rub you the wrong way as well? I mean, it is a sweeping generalization to make about happiness, that it’s a ‘choice’ for ‘everyone’. Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
