We have been hearing the whispers and rumors forever it seems. You know, the rumblings that perhaps Will Smith’s marriage to Jada Pinkett Smith is a bit of a sham? That whatever red hot energy once connected them has long since petered out into a good friendship at best and that as they’ve changed so have the rules within their marriage. Maybe Jada likes Latino men like, oh say, Marc Anthony and maybe Will likes video chicks or men– or whatever and perhaps the once hands-off policy has turned into more of a do-what-you0can-live-with kind of thing.
HuffPost recently sat Jada down and asked the tough questions and she answered without actually answering. When pondering whether or not she and Will have a relationship that is rooted in fidelity or if her husband of fifteen years likes men she said,
“I have always told Will, ‘You can do whatever you want as long as you can look at yourself in the mirror and be okay.’ Because at the end of the day, Will is his own man. I’m here as his partner, but he is his own man. He has to decide who he wants to be and that’s not for me to do for him. Or vice versa.”
Now, I don’t know about you, but if you ask me if my husband is gay I’m not going to spout off something about him being his own man, instead I’ll tell you know. The fact that Jada kind of dodged tells me that the truth of the situation lies in between her supportive words. If you can’t say that fidelity is vital or that your man is straight then you’re pretty much confirming the opposite.
I have to say, I kind of respect how Jada handled the topic. While she didn’t tell his secrets she also didn’t lie to cover up who her husband is. Instead she put him on a pedestal in spite of some of what she may even see as flaws in their marriage.
