Whoever it is goes for her and she screams. Castle also screams. His mom is tormenting him with makeup prep as he gets ready for a public appearance. They tell Rick they’re ready for him and Rick films an ad for his new book.

He holds up Raging Heat and promotes it but then at the end, turns over a display of books. He tells Kate later and she says that must have been embarrassing. He says he nailed it and she reminds him he’s playing himself. He says the commercial is a web-mercial and says he’s going to go viral. At the crime scene, Javi says the vic is 23 year old Abby Smith. She sits slumped against her wardrobe. Lanie points out the round stab wounds but she doesn’t know what did it – maybe an ice pick or a knitting needle. She says the killer knew where to stab and says she bled out fast. Ryan shows Kate the photo the killer texted to Abby right before he murdered her. Castle says this was personal.

Ryan says it was sent from a burner but they’re canvassing neighbors. Ryan points out the name Carlos and say he’s likely the BF. They bring Carlos in and he says only the landlord had a key to her place. He says she was going out to Club Doom for an appearance. He says she was a Snap-o-Matic impresario. He says she did funny reviews and says she had tons of followers, fans and was making money.

He shows them an ad of her gagging in front of a gyro place. He says Edward Han was one guy who was bugging her – the guy is an acupuncturist. Abby had posted a pic of his place that said – do not let this guy poke you. Javi says this is stupid and complains about Ryan says one of the neighbors saw Hahn at Abby’s place the day before screaming about making her pay and she slammed the door in her face. They bring him in and he says he was angry and says the bimbo was never a client.

He says her little joke was costing him his business. He says he was out drinking when she dies. He says she had a stalker and Ryan says it’s him. He says Abby told him that someone had been following her for a month but he says he only found her a week ago. He says she showed him a threatening note on a postcard and says she accused him of it. Kate says he alibied out and Castle says it would be too obvious if Han really did poke her to death.

Kate says Abby wasn’t close to her family so they have no clue. Javi shows up with the threatening postcard that says “the brightest stars burn quickest.” There’s a wood varnish stain on the card. Kevin comes in and shows them something among Abby’s followers – a pic of dead Abby before the cops ever got there, The user name is netslayer. The post says – this star’s 15 seconds are over. Castle wonders if he killed her for being a web celeb – she had half a million followers.

They wonder if the guy wants to be a web celeb himself. Kate and Castle head to Snap-o-Matic. The owners tell them that it’s run on a platform that anonymizers. They tell her they’re trying to help track it down. They say the email account he used to register has been shut down. Kate says to pull down the murder pics but leave the account open. One of the techs there says he found a geo-tag in the meta data that’s an anomaly. The coordinates are a furniture store in downtown Manhattan owned by Bill Garrett.

Bill is a former cop that worked in the cyber division before he had a nervous breakdown. Javi and Ryan nab him as he goes to open his shop. They cuff him and bring him in. He complains to Kate this is no way to treat a fellow cop. Kate says they found awls that match the murder weapon and a burner phone that took the murder photo. He says he never took the photos and Kate says the photo was uploaded from his WiFi and she says the wood varnish is from his shop. He says he never goes online unless he has to.

He says he quit the cyber unit because a frat guy date raped a girl and put the photos online then got away with hit so he beat the guy up and got pushed out of the unit. He says he was home alone when it happened. Javi calls her out to show Kate a new netslayer photo of Bill getting arrested and taunting the NYPD that they arrested the wrong suspect. He also says “i’m still out here.” He also sends new photos of body parts, sausages cooking on a grill, a date of November 12th and the message that the game is on.

Castle says it’s a game and Kate says these are the clues to his next murder. Kate says Bill has an alibi and the killer set the guy up. Gates says the press is calling and Kate fills her in on the clues and says Tori is working on it. The body parts look like a white woman in her 20s. Javi says the grill is a Fowler brand and the date is World Pneumonia day. Castle says it may not be a date. Tori comes out and says she ID’d one of the images and shows them it’s from a food blogger.

The blogger is Mary Fuchs and she’s got a Snap-o-Matic profile too. They bring her in to see if she may be the next victim. They show her the other clues of body parts and the date. They ask her about Abby Smith and she says she had never heard of her until she died. Castle asks what she blogs about and she says German cuisine. She does recipes and restaurant reviews. She has just 47 followers and she says that’s pretty good since she just joined last week.

Castle wonders later why target someone with a ton of followers and then none. Tori ID’d another image. It’s from an artist’s photo Daniel Leach and he’s on Snap-o-Matic but he’s got just two thousand followers. Ryan says he has more followers than that on his blog. Daniel is in Seattle for an art opening so that means he’s not the next victim – he doesn’t even live in NY. Castle asks the name of the painting – it’s spoiled. He says he knows what the clues mean.

Spoiled milk plus sausages equals Spoiled Brats. Castle shows them an article called the Spoiled Brats of Snap-o-Matic. Kate notices that the body parts match Tatiana Fisher in the article photo. She’s got a million followers and they decide she’s the likely net victim. They roll up on her place, blue lights blazing. Kate tells her she thinks the netslayer is after her and Tatiana says he wouldn’t dare. She says she has a party on Fire Island. She asks if they can force her to go with them and they admit they can’t so she says bye bye. She screams as she opens her car door and sees her BF Cam is dead with his throat slit.

serial killer. They have photos of Cam’s car and even mention the user name netslayer. The reporter asks who will he strike next and when will authorities stop him. Gates says this is feeding what the guy wants. Ryan says they think netslayer broke into the car and waited on Cam. They have no prints. Kate says they never had a chance to get to them in time. Castle says netslayer is now at a half million followers and more all the time.

Tori says two more photos have been added. One is of Cam’s dead body and another is of Castle and Kate smiling and drinking coffee as they came into the first crime scene at Abby’s. He included a message that the NYPD is on it and basically saying they’re doing a crappy job. Gates calls her in and says the smiley photo makes it look like they aren’t taking the investigation seriously. Gates tells her to go home and clear her head.

Kate rails to Castle about why she hates social media and says it was taken out of context since they weren’t even on the case yet. She says anonymity empowers cowards to become bullies. That gives Castle an idea that they need to look at people that were part of Bill’s cyber cases that maybe was bullied himself. Ryan shows them a 3D printer and says the guy made keys to both Abby’s apartment key and Cam’s Rolls Royce. Ryan says all you need is a photo of the key.

Ryan shows a photo of Cam bragging when he got the car and holding the car keys. Ryan has made one to prove the point. Kate wonders if they can track down the 3D printer. They wonder where he could have got a photo of Abby or Bill’s place. The BF says Abby used to rent out her apartment on an online site. Tori explains lots of people do it for extra money but says she never will again. Tori found ATM footage of a guy that didn’t show up as promised to rent but took a photo of the key that was hidden under a brick.

They have his face. Kate is thrilled they finally have a solid clue. Gates comes in and asks where they are and they are distributing his photo to potential witnesses. Kate wants to give his photo to the press but Bill comes in and says he knows who he is – Adam Lane. He says he was a victim and he worked the case six years ago. He says the guy is in a fake beard. Gates says they can release his name and photo and they decide to reach out to his family too.

Bill tells them he was in high school at the time and was being cyber bullied. Some football player named Tim stole his clothes in the shower. The jock recorded the naked rant and posted it online. He says all of these other kids were hateful to Adam and no one was ever held accountable because the cyber bullying laws were weak back then. Bill says the incident ruined the guy and says he’s after the popular kids for bullying and Bill and the cops for not protecting him.

Bill says he was a loner, computer geek and didn’t really have any friends. They have no luck finding him – no job, no driver’s license, no tax returns. His mom died a year ago. Javi says Tim, Adam’s bully, is dead in an unsolved murder from a year ago. They think he’s going to stay close to the Lower East side where he lived with his mom. They think he may be renting the basement from the couple that bought his mom’s house.

The bust in and find him at the computer. There are photos implicating him everywhere. They tell him he’s under arrest and he smirks. Castle asks what’s funny and he says she’ll see. She gets a call from Javi who says Adam put some new footage on the netslayer feed. He as Oren and Kit Wilder from Snap-o-Matic stowed somewhere and Javi says they are about to be his next victims. We see the footage of the two guys.

Their mouths are taped and it looks like they have defibrillator pads stuck to them – several each. Adam smirks at Kate and Castle. The post says – like me or I die. They are letting people vote for which brother lives. The votes are pouring in. Ryan says those guys will die even though Adam is in custody. Kate sends the guys to the Snap-o-Matic office for tech support on finding them while she goes to try and get Adam to talk.

Adam asks if Oren or Kent is ahead. She says time is running out for him too but he says he has nothing to say. She says he’s going to prison, but if he says where they are, he can control what kind of prison he goes to. He says three hots and a cot so it doesn’t matter and says it can’t be worse than high school. She says prison will take him places he can’t imagine. She says he’s young and teachable and will pay in prison. He says he already has what he wants – notoriety – he say he will always be listed with Manson and other famous killers. He says he will even one up by killing while he’s in police custody.

She says he’s sick and can get him help. He mocks her and asks why she thinks he’s the sick one. He says no one had to vote for Kit or Oren or follow his profile. He says they want to watch and be part of it. He asks who’s the really sick one. Bill tells Castle that Adam wasn’t always like this. Castle says Kate may still be able to break him or that Snap-o-Matic can help. The techs there are racing to try and find them but they are down to 15 minutes.

He says Kit was working on something to break privacy in case they needed to but it’s untested. The tech says they can try it and they run the program. Their system crashes and he says they’re locked out and it takes 20 minutes to reboot. Castle sees the site crash on his smart phone. Castle says it’s all up to Kate now. She asks where Kit and Oren are and he says if the cops were doing their jobs, they would know. She asks how killing them will heal him or fix anything. He says he’s already won and says if she admits it, he’ll give her a hint.

She says he won and asks for the hint. He says he changed his mind. There are seven minutes left. She says netslayer is evocative. She says she pictures a hooded figure in all black, tall, with an ax. She says no one pictures him. She says everyone else has won – everyone who bullied, hurt and belittled him and thought he was weak, worthless and small. She says that’s what he is and he was born that way or his mommy made him that way.

She says Tim didn’t make it that way they just showed what he was. He says he’s the victim and she says he always will be. She calls him a pathetic loser and that when he kidnapped Kit and Owen they probably thought he was a loser and shared a laugh about him. She got him to admit they’re together. She says they are laughing now and he says it won’t be when the clock hits zero and they breathe in that stale air and flop against that tiled wall.

Bill says that sounds like the locker room at Adam’s school which is currently abandoned. Castle pounds on the window to call her out. They race to the school and Javi and Ryan yank the wires with one second left before they were shocked to death. Bill shows up and thanks them for letting him pitch him and they tell him that Oren and Kit are alive because of him. Castle says Adam will be on the news for a long time and he has what he wanted – more followers.

She’s sick of social media but Castle says they have one more piece of business. He has her, Martha and Alexis together to watch his ad. They show him pulling gun out of his mouth, knocking over displays, mispronouncing his own name and auto tuned. It’s hysterical. He trips, he coughs, calls himself Critchard Rastle and worse. The women all laugh out loud and he’s horrified. He asks what the hell it is and Alexis says it already has a million views. Kate says it’s gone viral and that’s what he wanted. She says they need to watch it again and turn it back on for another laugh.

THE END!
