Nina Dobrev's Ian Somerhalder Friendship Ruined by Boyfriend Mark Foster Relationship: The Vampire Diaries Wars

So we’ve covered the Nina Dobrev relationship with boyfriend Mark Foster pretty extensively, as CDL exclusively broke the story for you last week, and we’ve covered the Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder relationship extensively as well, being the first site to break the news that they were splitting up. Now, we’d heard that things had been getting awkward on the set of The Vampire Diaries, what with the exes, the current girlfriends/boyfriends, and the general sense of everyone having hooked up with everyone. I mean, it’s a CW show with extremely attractive young people who have to make out every day – can’t exactly blame them for giving in to their carnal urges, can we? And of course half of them would end up dating and/or sleeping with each other, which was always bound to make things awkward at some point in the future. This is a problem that many CW shows – and really, many television shows – have.

Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder Friendship Threatened By Nina's Mark Foster Boyfriend Relationship

Anyway, the end result is that Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder have been on fairly awkward terms for a few months now. They broke up last year, and even though there are several [read: too many] fans that are invested in their relationship, both of them have been doing their utmost to avoid each other. Nina was the first to publicly move on from the breakup, with a series of flings that ended up throwing everyone for a loop. Ian remained ‘officially’ single for a while longer, but unlike Nina, he did everything in his power to show off his new girlfriend, Nikki Reed, to the whole world. In contrast, Nina Dobrev spent a lot of time and effort hiding her new boyfriend, Mark Foster [of Foster the People] from the public, which may have afford her a brief reprieve with the media scrutiny.

Of course, the Mark Foster situation has only made the Ian Somerhalder situation even more complicated. Now, the two love interests of a TV show — who used to date – are dating significant others, all the while pretending on camera to have feelings for each other. Is it that impossible to imagine that Nina’s burgeoning renewal of her friendship with Ian is starting to suffer?
