A man rides horseback at a furious pace through fore stand flatland. Aurora sets out a picnic and greets Philip the rider. They are distracted by coming purple clouds. Their horses whinny and run off. He tells her it’s not a storm – it’s magic. They run from it. The clouds dissipate and he asks if she’s okay. They are surprised to see Snow and the other residents of Storybrooke. Snow tells her she’s back.

One year later. Emma walks into a restaurant and meets a man for dinner. She apologizes for being late and he forgives her. Walsh asks how Henry’s volcano was at the science fair and she thanks him for his help. They enjoy a nice dinner. Her date excuses himself from the table and she checks her phone. Hook takes the chance to steal her date’s seat. He apologizes and tells her he was trying to jog her memory. He tells her that her parents are in danger and that her memories of her past are faulty.

He slips her an address and tells her to go there to learn about her parents. Hook tells her she was there a year ago. He’s shocked at how her memories have been totally wiped. She tells him he’s a liar and he says he’s a dashing rapscallion. He tells her to use her gift to detect lies to see that he’s telling the truth. She does but is still confused. He tells her to check out the address and then meet him at the entrance to the zoo. He goes.

Back in the enchanted forest, Aurora catches up with Snow. Hook is there. Snow congratulates her friend on her pregnancy and they tell her they defeated the ogres. Regina says they are making her queasy. Philip offers to make them welcome. They ask for horses and they find out that the only castle left standing in their kingdom is Regina’s. Snow tells her they are all going back together. Snow tells her the best thing they can do is for them to present a united front to give the people hope. The group leaves.

Aurora tells Philip they have to tell “her” (whoever that is) that they’re returned. She worries she (whoever that is) will punish them if they don’t report this major news. Aurora says they can’t risk their child’s safety to protect those returned from the curse.

Walsh comes back to the table and asks Emma if she remembers their first date. She recounts it and he reminds her that she ordered an ice cream sundae even though it wasn’t on the menu. He reminds her that he had to bribe the chef to get it made and offers her dessert. She says she’s full but he asks her just to look at it. He turns the plate and shows her the diamond ring encircled in a thin ribbon of chocolate on the plate by her ice cream sundae. He tells her that he loves her and Henry and wants a future with them both. He drops to one knee and proposes.

Outside the restaurant, Emma stands on the street. Someone watches her in the side mirror of their car. Walsh rushes out and tells her that he had to hear her say no and then watch her walk out on the bill. She apologizes and says it surprised her. He says that was the plan and she asks if it isn’t too fast. Emma asks how he knows it’s right. Walsh tells her he knows it was right from the moment she walked into his furniture shop. She tells him she loves him and he reciprocates. She tells him she’s not good at fast. Walsh tells her he knew it was fast and tells her they can have a long, long engagement. He says he just wants his life to be with her and she asks for time to think and he tells her to take all the time she needs.

Emma comes home and finds Henry playing a video game. He tells her he’s at level 23 and she grabs a controller to play along. He asks what she said to Walsh and she’s surprised that he knew. He tells her that the writing was on the wall. Emma says she didn’t say no and Henry says “poor guy” and she tells him the two of them have a good thing going. He says there could be three of them and she asks how he feels about having a third. Henry says he likes Walsh and tells her that not every guy is like his dad. She reminds him that his dad left her holding the bag and in jail. He tells her she can trust Walsh.

Back in the Enchanted Forest, Jiminy lands on Grumpy’s shoulder and gives him some news. Grumpy tells Charming that more Storybrooke people are showing up a couple of miles away. Hook has a horse burdened down with supplies and Charming asks why so much. Hook admits that he’s not going with them to the castle. He says he has to find the Jolly Rodger. He says that Regina said everything came back so his ship is somewhere out there. Snow comes up and asks him if he’s going back to being a pirate now that Emma is gone and he says he never stopped.

Neil comes up and asks if they might find his father back there and he wants to check out his dad’s old place. He wants to try and get back to Emma and Snow reminds him that Regina said when they came back the door would be closed – no more portals. Charming tells him they have to leave Henry and Emma be to give them their best chance. Neil walks away unhappy.

Henry asks Emma for his permission slip and he hands it over. She has the paper in her hand with the address on it. He asks what she’s worried about and she lies and says she’s thinking about the proposal. She says it’s life changing and he tells her she should accept that some things are just right and okay. He heads off to school and she considers the address. She picks the lock at the seedy apartment the paper led her to.

Emma looks around and sees a dreamcatcher in the window. She picks it up and calls it flypaper for nightmares and says Neil’s name. She looks at mail on the counter to confirm that it’s Neil’s place. She sees a camera strap with Henry’s name on it and says it’s not possible. Neil never knew Henry…

Emma meets Hook outside the zoo. He tells her it’s good to see her and she asks why he didn’t tell her it was Neil’s place. She tries to talk about Neil and he tells her it’s about her parents, not him. She says he sounds crazy and he tells her that she’s the only one that can save her parents. She shows him the camera with the strap and asks about it. He tells her Henry left it there when they visited New York last year. He offers her a vial and tells her to drink it to get her memories back. She’s hesitant about taking a drug from a stranger. She handcuffs him to a bench and whistles for the cops. They come and arrest him for assault while he screams that she’s making a mistake because her family needs her.

Belle tells Neil he’ll see Emma and Henry again. She whispers that she thinks they can get Rumple back. Snow tells Charming they are almost at Regina’s castle and he calls it their castle. He says she never imagined coming back with Regina by their side but Grumpy tells her that she’s gone missing. Snow finds Regina in the woods and she’s burying something. She tells Snow it doesn’t concern her. Snow sees that it’s a heart and then asks if it’s Regina’s.

She tells her that she misses Henry less without it in her chest. Snow tells her she can’t just bury her pain in the woods and Regina says “watch me.” Snow tells her she won’t feel anything without it and Regina says that’s the point because not only can she not have Henry, but he doesn’t even remember her. Snow promises her that it will get better and say she’s going through the same thing with Emma.
Snow tells her that she needs her heart to find happiness and Regina says she can’t be happy without him. Snow tells her she can and needs to find a way for Henry. She picks up her heart and puts it back in her chest. As she does so, she begins to cry. Regina walks away and tells her they need to get back to their castle.

There’s a noise in the bushes and Snow tells her there was something there. Regina checks and doesn’t see anything and says it must have flown away. Snow looks up as something flies down at them and says “it did.”

Snow says they need to find cover but Regina puts a fireball in her hand. She misses and the creature grabs Regina. Snow grabs onto her and is able to yank her loose. A man saves them and introduces himself as Robin of Loxley (aka Robin Hood). Regina asks what it was and they say they don’t know. The merry men aren’t happy to see Regina there. They head out to get away from the creature.

Emma tells Henry that maybe her past has kept her from living and they need to start looking forward. Henry asks if she’ll say yes and she sighs. He asks how she’ll tell him and he says she can tell him at dinner. She says she hasn’t invited him, but Henry set it up and even made plans to get out for the night. She sends him up to their apartment and pulls out photos she had developed from the camera. She finds Hook leaving the police station and he tells her it was barbaric and they fed him something called bologna.

Emma shows him the photos and they are from a trip she said she never took. He tells her there is an explanation and offers her the vial again. Emma says if what he’s saying is true she’d lose her life here. He tells her it’s all based on lies and she says she has Henry, a job and a man she loves. He tells her that she should drink up unless she’s comfortable living lies. He holds out the vial, she takes it and drinks it down right there on the street. She staggers back as all the memories come pouring in. She stares at Hook and calls him by name. He smiles and asks if she missed him.

The merry men walk with the crowd and Neil greets Robin. Belle gives him a hug and he’s happy to see her. Robin asks Neil if he found his son in Neverland and then asks where he is. Neil says it’s complicated but he’s safe and with his mother. Regina asks Snow if she thinks Robin is trustworthy. She says he’s a thief and Snow says he probably doesn’t think well of her either. Regina says it’s a good point and when Snow says he’s cute, Regina eyerolls and says he smells like the forest.

They can see the castle but Regina says there’s a protection spell around it. She says no one takes their castle and she says she’s going to kill whoever has taken it. Robin says they can stay with them in the forest to take the time to investigate rather than attack rashly. Regina promises to put an end to them but they try to temper her.

Emma pours whiskey for herself and Hook and asks why he’s there. He says there was nothing for him in the Enchanted Forest and then he got a message saying there was a new curse and she was the only hope. She asks if he came all the way back to save her family and he says he came to save her. They try to figure out who has enough power to reach into her world. She tells him drinking the potion was like waking up from a good dream. She asks how she can explain it to Henry and Hook says he only had enough ingredients for one potion. Her doorbell rings and she says it’s Walsh. She tells him her time with Walsh was real and she owes him an explanation. Hook asks what she’ll say and she says she doesn’t know but can’t drag him into all this. She tells him to wait there and he pours more liquor.

Emma heads downstairs and tells Walsh her house is a mess. She tells him she can’t marry him. He asks if it’s too soon and she says she has to go home and take care of some things. Walsh reminds her she said she was an orphan and she says it was a lie. She tells him someone from her past showed up and he asks if it’s Henry’s father. She says no – he’s more of a ghost. She tells him it hurts her to think about leaving and he begs her to stay but she says she can’t. She says she wishes he could see it her way and he tells her he wishes she didn’t drink the potion. He tells her she couldn’t leave well enough alone and he tells her he actually liked her. He tells her that he actually kind of liked her. She asks who he is and his eyes turn red and then he turns into a giant flying monkey and attacks her. They brawl, she hits him with a pipe and he falls to the street far below but then disappears in a puff of smoke. Hook runs onto the roof and asks what that was and she says it’s a reminder that she was never safe. She tells him they can leave in the morning.

Emma makes breakfast and Henry breaks her out of her reverie. She asks if he believes in magic and he says he does and also in Santa Claus and the tooth fairy. He asks about Walsh and she says she’s certain she made the right decision and it will be just them for a while. He tells her as long as she’s happy. He tells her has to go to school. She tells him no school today because they’re going on a trip. She says she has a new case in Maine and he’s thrilled.

She tells him they’re leaving now. There’s a pounding at the door and he asks who she’s expecting. It’s Hook and he asks if she’s ready. He comes in and she introduces him as Killian and he’s the client she’s working for. Henry asks why he’s dressed that way and Hook asks him the same question. She tells him to help Killian with the bags and says she needs one last thing. She goes to get her badass red leather jacket.

They drive in her bug into Storybrooke. Why is it still there? She asks Hook why it’s back and he snaps on his Hook. She asks he’ll explain it to Henry and he says that’s his problem. She asks if the curse has wiped everyone’s memories and he says he doesn’t know. She tells him to watch Henry while she goes to talk to her parents.

She knocks on the door and David is in shock. She thinks he doesn’t remember but he does. He asks why she’s there and she says Hook found her. He doesn’t know how they got back, who took their year. He says that the last thing they remember is saying goodbye. She asks how he knows it’s been a year and then Snow comes down and she’s hugely pregnant. She tells Emma that the whole year is definitely gone and Emma asks who the hell would do this.

The wicked witch asks the monkey if he got what she needed and he gives her some of Regina’s blood. She puts it in a vial and says she will now get her revenge. She says the queen may be evil but – I’m wicked and wicked always wins… It’s the Wicked Witch of the West!

THE END!!
